Sports mom going through kids (now adults) old collections
Hello All!
I am a mother of 4 boys (all now adults) that collected A LOT of sports cards growing up. I just so happened to notice a card (90 Donruss Nolan Ryan - 5 error Card) from the kids' collection selling for an insane amount on ebay so I decided to pull out the two I knew the boys had and it turns out that one of them is the exact same card with all 5 errors (No dot after INC, Error in the D in the word Third, Front off center, Back off center, and the rare red shade used on the front).
That's what started this journey into the sports cards collection as I initially wanted to find out as much information as I possibly could on the value of the card (and not what people were asking for it, although they aren't far apart as it turns out). The card is now safely stored away as we decide what we want to do with it but I must say, the sports card community has been amazing, so helpful, and such a blessing that it makes being a collector worth it regardless of the value of the cards themselves. I've enjoyed looking back through them and the moments each card/players brings back. The sheer number of cards was impressive but I was most impressed by the number of great players they had collected and the incredible condition the cards are in (especially with some being 40+ years old) My boys started collecting in the mid-late 80s and reached its peak in the mid 90s but continued on up until 2015-16.The majority have been stored away in sleeved books inside large sealed plastic containers all this time. There's also a few Beckett Magazines in there with them from 92-97, which was when pricing your cards was a very simple and clear cut process. Today it seems like it's not about how much they are worth but instead how much a person wants for them.
Sorry for the long introduction but that's how I ended up here, looking to get more information on a few cards while looking for an inviting community that is open to collectors of all experience levels where you can find quality members who are open to buying and selling cards, the same as myself.
Thanks for having me!

Welcome aboard!
That's what collecting is all about!
That's the era I mainly collected in, too.
Really make sure you look up serially numbered cards from the 90s; several sets are worth a lot.
The best place to see value is Sold items on eBay.
Good luck!I collect all WVU Alumni: Amos Zereoue, Steve Slaton, Pat White, Robert Sands, Rasul Douglas, Avon Cobourne, Quincy Wilson, Owen Schmitt, Will Grier, Gary Jennings, David Sills, Trevon Wesco, Pat McAfee, Darius Stills, Tavon Austin, Geno Smith, Charles Sims, Sam Huff, Chuck Howley, Jerry West (NBA), Jevon Carter (NBA), Jedd Gyorko (MLB), etc.
and Dolphins, Avalanche, St.L Cardinals, & SF Giants

Welcome to SCF, there’s lots of helpful members so don’t be afraid to ask questions.
FYI-Off-center cards aren’t really error cards as there’s plenty of them from the 1950s and up. I’ve seen plenty of 1990 Donruss all star cards listed for exorbitant amounts due to “printing errors”. These may have been “intentional” or just lack of quality control again in printing the cards. Either way, there’s tons of them as they were produced in the “junk wax era”.
As you said about “values”, it’s more about what another collector will pay for a card.
Good luck on the site and have fun.
