With the NHL not crowning a Stanley Cup champion or Upper Deck not releasing the Extended Series for the 2023-24 hockey season, it’s wild to think we’re already getting a first look at the Upper Deck flagship product for 2024-25.
Last week, we received an email from Upper Deck with a sell sheet revealing details on next season’s Series 1 product. Here’s what we learned from it!
First, we know what the Young Guns will look like in this year’s set. Upper Deck chose a sleek, modern, and almost futuristic font for them.
We can confirm that Cutter Gauthier, the former fifth-overall pick, will have his Young Guns (deluxe, silver, red, gold outburst, high gloss, exclusives, canvas, and clear cut) in Series 1.
This set will include 49 other Young Guns, for a total of 50, in addition to a 250-card base set. As is tradition in Upper Deck, collectors will find an average of six Young Guns per box.
Speaking of Young Guns, Upper Deck is rolling out Young Guns Renewed in its new lineup of inserts in Series 1. Having former The Chase guest Luke The Cardist be the one creating these makes it extra special for us here.
On average, three copies of The Young Guns Renewed will come out of the packs in a single hobby box. Collectors can look for Exclusives, High Gloss, and printing plate parallels.
Upper Deck is also reintroducing Hologram cards with Holotypes. According to UD, these “very rare” cards will be a staple in Series 1 over the next few seasons.
UD will be more aggressive in the parallel game with its flagship product. Many of the inserts look like they will have parallels and numbered ones.
For instance, new parallel A-Lines have a red numbered parallel and 1/1 printing plates. Gaming Co-Op, Gaming FOV, Gaming PVP, and Gaming XP will have green and gold numbered parallels along with speckle and blue unumbered.
Additional inserts include Aimbot and City Satellites with speckle, black, and numbered red and gold parallels and Breaking News with numbered red parallels and printing plates.
Returning favorites UD Portraits and Dazzlers will have a new look in 24-25 Series 1.
Population Count will also return with the same 1000, 500, 100, 50, 25, 10, and 1 print runs.
Series 1 will also keep the configuration introduced during the 2023-24 season. Each hobby box will have 12 cards per pack and 12 packs per box.
Throughout the solicitation for Series 1, Upper Deck used the term intra-series. It’s the feature that intrigued me the most.
What does that mean? Six sets and their card numbers and set counts will overlay across Series 1 and Series 2, as well as Series 1, 2, and Extended.
The intra-series sets include the base, Dazzlers, Pop Count, UD Canvas, UD Portraits, and Young Guns Renewed.
Check dacardworld.com for presale and information on next season’s Upper Deck Series 1.
In the meantime, let us know what you think of the new and returning features in Upper Deck 2024-25 Series 1!
