travlncard - I wouldn't care if it was "behind the scenes". Like if he was doing his business on eBay and everything, but when he used Beckett as a resource and said he was a true Ryan collector for so many years, and that Ryan was his Childhood Idol, that's wrong to do what he's doing. I guess if someone is money-hungry that's how they get ahead in life. I think that's wrong. Don't butter people up with a bunch of bull crap to get your fortune. There are people out there that work hard for their money, and do it honestly. Guys like slap hard-working people in the face, in my opinion!

He want's $100,000 for them? I'd rather take $100,000 and buy like 5-10 whole game worn jersey's of Nolan Ryan

EXACTLY what I was thinking. They are 1 of 1 made to witch would make them a heck of a lot better cause it is a whole jersey. :icon_smil

I guess Im jus "stupid in your eyes" as well, Ive given away some very nice cards in my life......mostly to true fans who attracted my attention because they were a die hard player collector of someone I happened to have a nice card of at the time. I Definately care about how much of a fan someone is. Im especially endeared to those who collect lesser known players and not jus in it for the HOT Money cards of the moment.
This is jus my humble opinion but its people like you who have ruined the Hobby. Its always gotta be about the money and not the love of the game or the team etc etc. Ive never been in it for the money, and I still to this day would trade a gu or auto for a nice Derrick Thomas commom any day of the week!

I've traded a GU for a black-border several times. Those in the hobby for finance would laugh at me, but I'm a collector, and I'd trade something I would not want for something I would. I can HONESTLY say that if I pulled a Bonderman 1/1 (or any other card) that the super-collector himself needed, I'd freely give it to him simply because I'm intrigued by his passion for the hobby. Does that make me stupid? Perhaps, but I feel I can claim that I am a pure collector, not an investor. By the way, I was thoroughly disgusted with the Beckett guy's use of false emotion to gain capital.

I was all about the money when I was a kid, but now that my entire collection is nearly worthless, it's a whole lot more fun building sets of crap 80s-90s cards.

I don't think any of you are stupid for giving up nice cards to true collectors. It's a nice gesture. People like you are what makes the hobby "fun"! I've given cards up to player collectors and set collectors, for nothing, or for an SASE. I'd rather them have it to complete a set or to go in the player collection, where it means more in a sentimental way, than for me to hold on to it. I've never given up a high dollar card for free, becuase they come few and far between...and usually I will try and get a Ryan I need for it. I also hold cards for people all the time, and give them the opportunity to find something for me.

I don't sell though. I've thought about it, but you don't get what it books, usually not even half, depending on what type of card it is. One of my life-long dreams is to own a card shop, but not to become a millionaire...maybe to pay the bills though. I am in this hobby for the fun and excitement of collecting my IDOL Nolan Ryan, as well as helping other's out there like me. What this guy did, the subject of this thread, is take our passion and respect for the hobby and ball it up and toss it in the trash.

Now, if this guy is in dire need of money, for instance if he was sick or had a family member in a bad situation, then I could be sympathetic. But until I hear or see this info, I don't have any respect for how he went about getting these Ryan's and what he's doing with them now.

Thanks for all the replies, whether they be for or against how I feel. I always respect other people's opinions, although I don't agree with them sometimes.
