Yeah that's a lotta dough. 14 mil AAV. Just gonna keep trying to win a cup with McDavid and Draisaitl. At least we know Draisaitl will be there for the long haul so far, but I suspect McDavid will follow suit unless they win next year.

If the Oil didn't pay the man, someone else would. Also, if the Oil hope to keep McDavid, signing Draisaitl was a must.

That $14 million will be cheap 8 years from now if he close to the player he is now. Just have to hope no injuries as that always the big issue with long contracts. Some teams win and some teams lose as it all a gamble.

I think it's great. So long as there isn't another global pandemic causing revenues to plumit..... the cap will keep rising, and $14m won't look like so much by the time the contract is half done (still a lot, but we should see $2m+ rises most years).
If they didn't pay him, someone else would have. I was hoping he'd take a bit more of a discount, but I do believe if he'd hit the open market - someone would have offered $14.5 or even $15m.
I think this is a clear sign that McDavid is going to sign long term next summer. Probably $15 or $16m a year. (The moment Jeff Jackson was hired as President, to me, it became obvious that these two were going to stay).
Now they just need to win :)
