This is a tough one to vote on as many of these receivers are about the same. It would be easy for me to pick the best (being Jerry Rice and Don Hutson). I would hate to see Don Hutson voted off first. His career was only 11 years (1935-1945) when teams only played 10 to 12 games. His touchdown recptions record of 99 lasted for 44 years after his retirement until Steve Largent broke it in 1989 with 100. He still owns several other receiving records today and is credited with inventing pass patterns. He is not only one of the very best receivers the game has ever had, he is also one of the greatest football players ever to play the game.
TSN Sporting News rated their top 100 Greatest Football Players. Don Hutson was rated NUMBER 6, behind Jim Brown, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Lawrence Taylor, and Johnny Unitas.
My vote Paul Warfield!!!

Warfield.
Are we judging this just on their work as a WR? Hutson was a kicker and a safety too. Just wondering, this is the first position I've voted on.

Ideally you will want to judge on just a WR Andrew, thats what I stress to members. But if you have a tie between members it wouldnt hurt to break into other areas if they are available.

Most players of his generation were 60 minute players in the days before free substitution. Don Hutson is not in the Hall of Fame because he played safety on defense and was a place kicker as well. He is in the Hall of Fame because of his pass receiving skills. "The Alabama Antelope" is still considered by many as the GREATEST pass receiver who ever lived. When he retired, Hutson had rewritten the NFL record book and held nearly every major receiving record that existed. He is credited with the invention of the modern pass receiving. He created Z-outs, buttonhooks, hook-and-gos, and many more. His pass receiving touchdowns record of 99 lasted for over 44 years after his retirement. He led the NFL in receiving in eight of the eleven seasons he played. When he retired his receptions record of 488 career receptions was almost 300 higher than the person who was in second place at 190. That is why he should be considered and not that he was a 60 minute player as were many of his time.
