Former Padres outfielder/pinch hitter and hitting coach Merv Rettenmund passed away at the age of 81. He was in the World Series 7x (4 as a player, 3 as a hitting coach). In 13 seasons, with the Orioles (who drafted him) Angels, and Reds, he played in 1,023 games with a .271 batting average, 66 home runs and 329 runs batted in. He recorded a .985 fielding percentage while playing all three outfield positions. He was also selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 19th round (257th overall) of the 1965 NFL draft.
