    A little help

    Hi Guys,

I am brand new to the forum. Like many, I stepped away from sports cards for a number of years. I have gotten back into it the last year, mostly pre 90's, without 90 different variations that need an engineering degree to understand. I am trying to understand the later years, but I can only spend so much time on it, so it is going to take me a bit to recognize value well without taking a significant amount of time.

    Now to my current question.

I am looking at aquiring a raw 2017 panini score patrick mahomes gold zone auto. I do have collectors club and have looked into it a bit amongst other studies. I am having a tough time coming up with a true value.

The card appears in near mint shape, but have learned through grading that I am not always correct. I do not have a current photo of the card or I would share it. This card is /50 high numbered and was hoping someone could provide me there thoughts on value. This would be a card I would be looking to move, not hold for improved value.

Thank you to everyone and I appreciate any info from you folks that might help me out. If I am going to make this deal, I have to act fast. Thanks again.

Really the only price valuation to go by would be what one sold for on eBay. So if one hasn't shown up recently you'd have to hit up somebody who can check back on old eBay sales for this card. The problem is though if a sale for it goes back years ago that is going to be off from the current Patrick Mahomes market. Still it would give you a rough idea.

I don't have exact comps for you, but you can get some ideas.

2017 Elite Draft PIcks Purple /50 Mahomes rookie cards:
    1 available for $2,699.99 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/226567196814 - it's unsold so it's probably priced a bit high.
    1 sold for $2,399.95 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/335554816830 - It's a PSA 9.

    My thoughts:
I'd generally assume any raw (as in, ungraded) Mahomes rookie autograph cards are likely grading between 7-8 with an upside of 9 these days. The point in your favor on the Score version is that it's a vertical card and people tend to prefer that over a horizontal card. Also Score's /50 is Gold whereas Elite DP's /50 is purple. Gold is a more pleasing color for Chiefs players and in general. Purple would get a bump for teams like the Ravens or Vikings.

Some points against the Score set is that it's also college uniform and college logo. It won't be as expensive as a Chiefs uniform or even Chiefs logo. I see there is a graded 2017 Panini Patches & Plates auto/patch card out there for $7,500. This would certainly be a more desirable card and currently help establish a ceiling of cards #/50 that this Score card can't go past.

So I'd say your comp is at least narrowed down to $2400 - $7500. Big range but at least it's a starting point. More likely closer to the low end than the high end.
