    Question to Ask - Hope Someone Can Help

    I know this may be a longshot but I'm hoping someone can help refresh my memory. Back with 1998 Leaf Rookies & Stars they had the parallel Longevity versions numbered to 50. If I remember correctly, all the ones serially numbered 01/50 were actually made a different way and were actually Masterpiece versions. Does anyone else remember if it was the ones from 1998 or another year? Any help/input on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Ira,

    The 1998 Leaf R&S did have the longevity paralell sequentially numbered to
    50. I'm not sure what you mean by "Masterpiece versions", but they had the same picture as the base card, but they had a shiny (almost metallic) cardstock and they say "Longevity" across the top of the front of the card. Hope this helps.

    Well, someone on another site provided me with this information on them:

    The answer you need follows below. It is a direct quote from the Beckett anual price guide (23rd edition 2006-07).

    1998 Leaf Rookies and Stars Longevity

    Randomly inserted in packs, this 300 card set is a parallel version
    of the base set printed on foil board with foil stamping and sequentially numbered to 50. Each player's first seqentiallynumbered card (#1 of 50) is printed on holographic board stock making it a one of a kind holofoil collectible.

    * Longevity Stars: 40X to 100X Basic
    * Longevity Rookies: 1.5X to 4X Basic
    * Longevity PT Stars: 8X to 20X Basic PT's
    * Longevity PT Rookies: 2X to 5X PT's
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    The info above explains the # 1 of 50 card, but doesn't book it. It would definitely be more than the multiplier for the cards # ed 2 thru 50.

    So, based on this information it does look like the ones numbered 01/50 ARE "Masterpieces" (or as they called them One of a kind). I appreciate the input from everyone else.

    This is correct, and the next listing in the book is:

    "1998 Leaf Rookies and Stars Longevity Holofoil"

    This 300-card set is a Holographic foil version of the Leaf Rookies and Stars Longevity parallel set. Each card is numbered 1-of-1 and constitutes the first card of the 50Longevity parallels. Due to the scarcity of these cards, no pricing is provided.

    STATED PRINT RUN 1 SERIAL #'d SET.....

    Hope this helps. BTW, which one do you have?

    I don't have it yet. I have the opportunity to get one from someone off of eBay (it's of Wayne Chrebet - I collect RARE inserts of his). I already have 3 of the regular Longevity cards but seem to recall that the ones numbered 01/50 were made different and were to be considered Masterpieces. I don't believe any were numbered 1/1 but rather the first ones of the Longevity cards were the Masterpieces (01/50).

    So, from what you posted above (Each card is numbered 1-of-1 and constitutes the first card of the 50 Longevity parallels) it sounds like a contradiction. How could the card be numbered 1-of-1 yet be the first of 50 Longevity cards? Sounds like 2 different cards.

    I don't know. That is word for word from Beckett. Sounds to me like its a parallel of the parallel.
