2024-25 UD Tim Hortons Retrospective Rookies New Set 14 April 2025
Another new set from Tim Hortons:

2024-25 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Retrospective Rookies Hockey continues with the trend of a second set of cards for the Canadian restaurant. While the name suggests a big first-year presence, it’s more the “retrospective” aspect that makes up the checklist.
Like the standard Tim Hortons set, there’s a sizeable base set along with a handful of inserts to compliment things. The odds are long, but some autograph and prize redemptions are also available.
Checklist and odds are on the spreadsheet here:

A very similar set to last year's Duos but with one player on the same two sided card as a vet and a rookie. I like that UD and Tims are trying new stuff, I don't know if the gimmicky double side cards can keep interest for too long, but it is better than just another metallic embossed set. Set breakdown is close to the same as others. 100 Base, a bunch of common inserts at 1:3, 1:4, 1:6, and 1:8. and the two harder chase inserts 1:24 Starting Success 15 cards, and the Dynamic Debuts at 1:100 for 5 cards. Autos will still fall 1:7200 packs or 1 per 9 cases. No Relics and print run looks to be 4.3 million packs.
Tim Horton is finally going to get some Timmies' love as a Sabre as he is pictured as a Maple Leafs player on one side and a Sabre on the other.
I don't know how much of this I will buy as I have no Primary PC players in the checklist, and Drake Batherson of my secondary list is on one card in the inserts. I will probably only buy odd packs with my daily coffee and not build the set.

Thanks for posting this Mike. I'm lukewarm on this one also. I don't know if there's an emerging burnout with Timmy's doing two releases per season now, but something about this one just doesn't quite hit the mark with me. I'm sure I'll end up with my fair share of packs and will get all the Habs stuff, though.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I don't know if burnout applies for me. I'm sure it is a big reason for some. The lower print run is quite a difference from the Fall release, and I believe a cut from last year's smaller print run for Duos as well. I would just like them to do a cardboard set, like a classic 90s UD, or a retro style OPC, leave the metallic cards out for a year or two and used the saved money to give a bigger checklist. While I know the stars are the biggest reason people buy the sets, but I want more Canadiana content, more Coast to Coast to Coast, hometown cards, provincial sets. Tim's wants kids to get excited opening a pack and hitting a Bedard, but a kid in NL gets excited hitting a Mercer or a kid in Whitehorse hitting a Dylan Cozens.
That said, the Sarah Fillier auto would be a nice hit.

I think that they are burning the formula with 2 sets per year. They should only keep one set at fall. People have less interest in cards with nice weather coming.
I will buy a few packs for fun with my coffee. I am not chasing the set, but I would love to get the Roy and Sakic base cards.

Seems like over kill to me BUT that being said I will probably try and do the set.

I bought my first packs just now and honestly, from my first impressions with cards in hand, this may be my favourite looking Tim Hortons hockey card product.
The base cards are strong with the rookie and veteran image on the same side of the card the gold foil isn't over done.
The first insert a 1:3 Initial Strides IS-4 Mikko Rantanen is a sharp insert, it is a refractor/metallic type card, but no embossed cuts and a great image with a nice font design.
My second insert is a 1:4 In The Books ITB-15 Brianne Jenner, while this is not a bad looking card, it is the weaker design for the inserts so far, looking like one of the new insert designs you would see in the newest Series 1 or 2. The image of the player on these cards is a bit small and the empty space taken up with writing like a teacher's grade & a post it with the player's debut date. Not a horrible card, maybe the weakest design from this years set.
I like what I am seeing so far, I think simplifying the design works, it gives the product a clean look with a high quality feel. Of all the products Upper Deck and Tim Hortons have done so far, this is the one that could have used the canvas insert. It would of been a good fit among these inserts and added not subtracted from the product. I don't think I am going to go out of my way to buy a ton of the product, but I am a little more intrigued about possibly building the set, and if I had a few PC players in it, I would be building this set.
Base:
32 Jake Guentzal
38 Nick Suzuki
86 Alina Mueller
93 Steve Yzerman <--- Really like this one.

If you are someone who was tired of the repetitive designs of the fall product give this one a try, the product is a refreshing change with a really sleek and nice design.

I did a few packs to check 'em out today. They're nicer than originally anticipated. I got a Celebrated Prodigies and they're a nice UD Canvas-like card. So that was a nice surprise. Maybe I will do a box after all haha

I didn't go through the insert checklist very well.
I only searched for Mercer, and Newhook for the PC, and then Norris and Batherson, I completely missed that Luke Scehnn is in the Celebrated Prodigies, I mean they never included him in the Duos set with his brother last year I never expected him to get in this year.
Thankfully, it made for a great surprise when I hit one just now.

Always nice to have one PC card in the set!
