Graded Card Holder

If you are looking to buy a graded card, does the condition of the holder matter to you?

I see PSA, Beckett, And BCCG holders with cracks, scrapes, chips, and scratches.

Do you lower the amount you would pay, or avoid buying a graded card altogether
because of the condition of the holder?

Any thoughts on this are welcome.

For myself, it depends on two things.

Firstly, does the damage to the holder impact the integrity of the graded card? If there's a slight chip on the edge of the case but the security and protection of the card is not compromised, then it's an aesthetic issue. If I really want the card, I'm buying it with the knowledge that a small defect isn't going to really impact the value in my mind. If I really need to, I can always resend the card in to be reslabbed.

Secondly, and this goes to the aesthetics I just discussed in my first point, does the defect with the graded card holder severely impact the look or presentation of the holder? If there is a giant scratch across the case, I'm probably not interested unless I can factor reslabbing the card into my purchase price.

I have thousands of graded cards, some with minor chips in the case, some with a little frosting, some with minor scratches or smudges. Minor damage is typical for a lot of resold slabbed cards.

Cracks and chips to me are a problem but I really don't mind scratches at all. I don't prefer them or want them but they just damage the aesthetics of the card/case while the cracks and chips can potential lead to card damage in the future or having to replace or regrade the card. I also think this is a more modern thing in grading because around 20 years ago people did not really care about the condition of the holder and they really didn't have items or cases to protect the slabs. Grading is way more mainstream now and taken more seriously as an investment.

I try not to buy severly scratched slabs. I will by chips, at a discounted rate just because the resplab costs mney as well and I don't want to pay full ppice and then add on shipping and reslabbing too. All slabs get minor surface scratches over time. Cards do as well if not in penny sleeves, etc..
