Interesting Card Find - Seeking Thoughts, Insights, Expertise
First, I apologize if I’m posting this in the wrong place. Thanks for the read too, if you stick around!
I have been back in the hobby for about 3 years now. As I’ve continued to try to learn about various card types, parallels, scarcity, etc., I have also tried to keep an eye on things that seem to meet various criteria, related to a cards value.
Once in a while you come across something interesting, that is hard to find data on, and naturally hard to research.
That is what I’m looking for folks thoughts on today. I’m fully prepared to learn, it’s no big deal, but it also feels pretty unique so it’s intriguing.
I came across a 1997 Pacific Crown Collection Derrick Thomas card today, as I was rolling through a bunch. This card series has images of football helmets across the bottom, followed by player name. Here is an example….

There are several variations of each card, or at least some of them. There seems to be about 5 or 6 variations. The one I found today is a red one, which is a really solid color match type profile, for the card. It is super slick.
The thing is, there are not many out there when I search for them and the ones that I find seem to say this color parallel is Copper, which is bizarre because there is a Copper version but it isn’t red.
It’s also interesting that SportsCardPro.com lists a Red parallel version. I know that is largely community driven, but I believe there is an approval process too. So there is at least a better than zero chance that’s a valid parallel version.
In the end though I can’t find much data on the card at all. No graded card sales for grades like 6 thru 10. Makes it feel like it’s a pretty darn rare card and for such a great looking color match type card, for an all timer at his position, it would seem to be highly sought after.
So I’ll post the card image below. Let me know what you think. I’m really curious what insights people have. When to maybe try to engage with pros on something like that. Ideas, etc. Really just anythIng people think.
