Rate your team's Draft Weekend performance
Like the title says, how do you feel about how your favourite team did this weekend?
As a Habs fan, I am thrilled.
Obviously the biggest move they made wasn't a draft selection, but of course the Noah Dobson trade. I've liked this player for a while, and the exchange doesn't bother me in the slightest. Heineman was a good bottom-six forward with potential, but you have to give to get in the NHL. The two mid-1st rounders I can live with. Potential is nice, but Dobson at age 25 is essentially a finished product at this point. We know what we're getting. It's also pretty cool that he identified the Habs as a team he wanted to play for and as a preferred destination. It feels like it's been forever that a guy being courted by multiple teams has Montreal down as a first choice. Usually we've leverage in a sweepstakes (hello, Pierre-Luc Dubois) so this was great. I don't know if they put Dobson with Hutson--perhaps in situations where the team is down a goal and they need some offence--but there's some great opportunities here.
As for the Canadiens draft picks, it sure sounds like Alexander Zharovsky (2nd) is a kid they're very high on in terms of his skills and potential. Love also that he and Ivan Demidov are childhood friends. The kid they took in round 3, Hayden, Paupanekis, is the first Kelowna Rockets player they have ever drafted. He obviously joins a good line of Rockets alumni to play in Montreal. :) So this gives me a little more reason to go see some games this year, in addition to it being a Memorial Cup-hosting season.
All told, very happy. Hughes was cookin!
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I like what I have seen so far with my the Habs. Now, they need some help in offense, Matheson could be a decent trade bait. I saw a rumor of a Matheson/RNH trade.

Yeah Matheson's name is out there quite a bit. I like him, but if he gets moved for a 2C (Kyrou?) or another good young player then I suppose we'll have to wait and see. He's a good enough player, and he's the elder statesman on the blue line now that Savard has returned. If he were to go, Carrier is the only guy over the age of 25 back there.

Oilers didn't have a pick until Round 3. Too late to draft a player I know anything about. Hopefully it was good?
They didn't do anything I thought was dumb, so that's a positive? lol.

The Dobson trade is huge. Islanders look like they killed it in the draft. A little bit of everything. Landing the #1 Overall pick is huge in itself but then trading for back-to-back picks in #17 and #18 was well-played. Hopefully it turns out well for them.
I do not know much about Red Wings first pick, he looks like he blossomed last year, 18 years old and of course he shoots left so he should fit right in. Now to make the playoffs ....
Of course right after the Dobson trade my only Dobson listed on feeBay sold immediately. Gotta love the Habs figuring out alchemy the right way by turning things into gold
