Thanks for your words. But, I have to admit. My original post was going to start like this.
"Dude! Thanks for your reply"!
I talk like that sometimes so forgive me that. But thanks.
Every step I take is in Baby steps. I never did this ™™™™ before. I've thought about it ever since the old days to sell them. Never much cared to do that. I mean, these were my cards, you know? I did the work of taking care of them, whatever that means. But now it is time to let some of them go. Retirement makes its own choices you know.
Peace.

@pwaldo
As you would suspect, it has gotten more interesting for me. I need to recap for you and others, since this may be telling of PSA. And I'm about sharing information with decent people just trying to not get squeezed everywhere you go.
The first card I submitted was a Topps 1961 Billy Williams. I used regular submission for 74.99. With tax and whatever, about 90 bucks. I now understand that the wait time for them to even open the box is the difference in the tiers of payment. Not the grading process. So that was interesting.
How I know this is because I sent in the two Mantle cards I spoke of. 61 and 59 Topps regular issue. No visible creases in them. Centering on the 59 was not bad. It was just a bit of fuzzy corners was all I really saw, albeit, under the naked eye. I should note that my eyesight up close to small things is sharp as a tack. Regardless, what I thought would be two PSA 5s ended up being two PSA 3s. That about halved their worth. But please oblige me to explain why PSA offered to buy them with no further charges applied. I told them to sell them on eBay like the Williams card. But instead, they laid out the cost variances if I sold to them or let them sell them on eBay. They would charge 12% for each card so roughly 76 dollars total. They waved that fee, as I stated.
Oh, and to what I said earlier about the wait time for different tiers. The Williams card, and the Mantle cards if I get paid for them tomorrow, sent in at different rates, from start to finish almost the same time. About 30 days. Submission to bank account. However, they charge you when the grade is announced but takes 48 bank hours to get paid directly from them.
So, me, just regular guy off the street trying to sell his old cards. This is my experience so far. I am already prepping the next submission. Two 1961 Topps Yaz cards. My assessment of them is at least PSA 6 based on the Williams card. I own two more in better condition. That is the thing. Most of my cards came to me in the same condition and didn't really suffer a lot of handling. Because of this, a good many of their conditions matches the Williams card which PSA verified a 7.
So you see, I am all over this like yellow on pee. I love analyzing stuff like this actually. And I would really like to see reactions to my experiment. If it helps me or anyone else that's just trying to navigate, I plan to send a lot more in and probably get a subscription if it makes fiscal sense to me.
Sorry so wordy, Peace all.

PSA is starting to dominate the market. As they now have a platform that could end up making as much money as EBAY in the near future. Then they get to grade the cards as well it double dipping for them. Now that leads everyone to speculate if that is a conflict of interest or not. I guess if it that profitable other companies will start to do it as well. As we have seen the market for cards in general have made many big dollars and with that will be more money to be thrown at creating platforms to compete with PSA.

And trust me, Don, I am not putting them down at all. They say they are backlogged, but as you can see, they delivered the cash so fast it was hard to resist. I applaud their efforts to streamline the process for a guy like me who is not in this to deal or trade. And that's kind of why I'm making sure you guys hear what happens. You spoke of conflict of interest. That was the first thought I had when I got an offer. The second was, why didn't I get an offer on the Williams card? Because it's Mantle cards is the answer of course, unless they just changed the policy.
I don't know because I am new to this. I just remember PSA being the first to grade cards. I remember Beckett being the first to publish a newsstand worthy price guide. I even remember that old black-and-white publication that misspelled the 1961 Topps Dick Groat card as Goat.
Ahh the good old days.
Thank you for your reply.
Any others have opinions, I'm all ears. Just remember, I paid zero for these cards. They were bequeathed to me by my brother-in-law in 1974. And some stuff I bought in cellos and such myself. I'm not a dealer or trader, nor have I ever been. I hate haggling. It makes me want to say NO! to every offer and just keep stuff. So, my situation is different. I just need to shed some of this stuff and settle some bills. PSa could sense that and take me for a ride if they wanted so IDK.

Update for anybody listening. The two 1961 Yaz's (sounds like I just cut myself shaving twice) are not showing the perkiness the Mantles did.
But it's not Tuesday yet, lol. One observation.
You are truly a gloomy bunch. I apologize, but is it really that bad? Sorry for my realism.

Did you share a scan of the Yaz's compared to the Mantle. Cannot relate if we cannot see the perkiness or lack there of.
Glad to see ya pop in back as I get busy but try to read all the post.
p.s. If you ever want someone in particular to reply to a post you can tag them as it helps them know about your post and they should get a notification.

I do appreciate you responding @doniceage. It's all good. I like to poke fun sometimes.
I actually intended to update @pwaldo. But I appreciate your time as well. Especially being the AGM.
Not surprising that the 2 Mantle cards I sent in got green-lit so quickly thru the grading process, but the two 61 Topps Yaz cards seem to be stalled. One thing I notice. It's the waiting time before grading that lasts the longest. Once the things get in the chute they seem to move pretty fast.
I will definitely send photos going forward to show what's happening. Need to get my phone on here to xfer them.
