Hard to say there. They tried that with the flight attendants and it backfired horribly. I don't think Carney wants to make the same mistake here. He'll at least give them time to try to work this out

Don't know whose side I'm on, but one thing is for sure,. Community mailboxes sounds like a terrible idea.

Community mailboxes are way better than traditional home delivery. Mail is delivered to a secure locked box in the community mailbox which you have a key that you access. No risk of having someone steal your mail that could potentially happen with a traditional home mailbox. You just have to worry about the mail carrier delivering the mail to the correct mailbox, but you would have that risk with whatever method was used anyway.

I have a mail slot at home
Why do I have to travel outside my home to get my mail
How do I know that a random person can't breaking a community mail box. My home has a lock, that doesn't mean a person can't break down the doorLast edited by cjb; 09-27-2025 at 02:28 AM.

Why?
Because they are being funded to the tune of 1 billion a year to stay above board, that's why. This isn't the CBC, who provide value to the Liberals as their Pravda spokespeople, so CBC losses don;t matter. It's Canada Post, and they provide ZERO value in that respect. Now they've done this, which will be the end of them eventually. Think about it. The one area they needed to focus on was making inroads in parcel/package deliveries. That was the future of their business. Now? After the last strike, and this one, many businesses won't use them, because they aren't reliable and there's uncertainty. When you give businesses a chance to explore an Option B, they are quite likely to stay with Option B later.

What travelling is involved? Most community mailboxes are on the same block as the residents or at most a block away. Are people that lazy and entitled that they can't step out of their homes and walk a block or two to get their mail?

Senior citizens with mobility issues

Maybe neighbours will see each other more often and may actually talk to one another. Maybe someone picks up the mail for the senior citizen once in a while... I mean no one asks their neighbour for a cup of sugar anymore!
I can see communal mailboxes saving some money by simply cutting jobs. But the alternating door-to-door carriers was a dumb idea because it destroys a built-up relationship a carrier has with the neighborhood. Only a carrier familiar with the area on a day to day basis can see changes in an address to know if something may be wrong. Alternating carriers would never be suspect of anything except mail piling up.
Can the company just find a way to try and move forward without losing $1 Billion per year ? Find out if it's even theoretically possible, then get the union and employees to implement the changes and start delivering our mail again!!
Who is going to come in and make mail significantly cheaper than Option B? We have Option C or D, there is no Option B yet.Master List: Hidden Content

Exceptions can still be made for those with mobility issues.
