It's quiet around here lately...

I've just recalled why I had taken a few weeks break from the forum, not too long ago... I keep saying it's becoming quiet(er) on here, and I now see that nothing has improved in the last few days, unfortunately; if anything it has worsened... Any of your thoughts are (more than) welcome..! Thanks!

Completely agree, but it's not even that I wanna complain, it's rather an observation... Sincerely. Plus, I don't necessarily think it's a lack of involvement either, from me for instance. I mean, I read people's wantlists; I try to find some of their wants in my boxes (whenever it's possible) - I'm too offering some cards on the forum, from time to time (not always high-end stuff got to say but I do what I can) - lastly I never really mind not to "win" a trade, I'm always willing to trade in someone else favor... But in the end, it doesn't seem to make any difference... Does it?!

In short, I'd like to be the change I wanna see, as you said, however, I'm already contributing "the best I can" on SCF. I think anyway... And I'm sure I'd have a few (if not many) instant replies for many of the cards I'm offering on here, if I posted on some social medias. Too bad there's not more activity on here. Don't get me wrong, it remains a great forum, probably [still] the best in sportscards trading & discussion there is out there.. But still... Sometimes, it doesn't seem "to be enough". From my view point anyways. Assuredly, I'd like to come up with a solution to improve things around here.

However, as I'm writing these few lines, I don't have one yet, unfortunately. But if/when I do, I will assuredly share it with the other members on SCF.

I have done much lately, the postal strike slows things down and I am waiting to go the the toronto expo Nov 06-09 to get deals and also get some ocards graded, then I willl have show and tell

How can any of this be true if RGM said you do NOTHING to contribute?

That’s what I was about to say. The postal strike slowed things a lot. I am busy with a shutdown at work and a few things to do at home, but my goal is to come back here with an updated sell-list around late-november and make things move a bit. I made a couple of cool trades not long ago.

I find it funny that folks talk about the forum being dead. I think I could truly boost activity if I had the time. As of the last six years I have pretty much worked everyday for up to 3 weeks straight but am slowing down to about six days a week LOL. When I did my group breaks on the site they filled instantly as I was doing it for the love of the hobby and not trying to make any money. So here some ideas I have off the top of my head to increase forum participation.

1) Hobbyfan has a monthly trading group for two sports that basically trade teams. It does not happen every month but we know there are diehards on the site that collect this team or that one. Has anyone ever truly stepped up to try to get something like this going. many say they are low end collectors. Might be hard as the postal rates for Canada and the U.S. but could do just either country to help with postal rates.
2) In all my years here how many times have I seen a U.S. person post I wish I had Tim Horton cards in the U.S. I have never seen a member or staffer besides me offer up Tim Horton packs up. I bet @FallenAngel or others might be happy to get a few packs if there was such an offer by Canadian members.
3) I look at other boards that the owner of SCF owns and there are free giveaways by members. I do not see too many here doing a contest or a thread to give a free card away. We all know folks like free items and they get participation.
4) Just like the monthly trading group there are all kind of things the forum could do on the boards
a) player trade list
b) team trade list
c) specific white whale wants

I say this as I go to a local show and I cannot tell you how many times I pick up things for folks and many times do not post them on the forums. I send text while at a show and send scans real time to the collectors asking if they need this or that card. I only do that for a few folks but if I know they are die hard collectors I have been picking things up for them every month for years when I hit the show. Be it a base card or possibly a numbered auto or patch etc. Why do we not have something like that going on the boards as there are so many of us who like to collect on a budget and if someone else is willing to pickup stuff and contact us if we need this or that card while they sor thru bargain bins or dollar boxes.
5) I remember when folks wanted banners for their profiles. With your talent in creating a nice life support for SCF, I bet you would get some replies from folks if you asked if anyone wanted a free banner for their posts on SCF LOL.
6) In my picture below I show that every day anywhere from six to thirty new members have signed up for the site. As I tell staff all the time over the decades I have been here. Why should anyone come back to the site if they make a post and no one replies or chimes in. Your talking about it being dead but do you actively try to make sure every reply by a new member or a person sharing their cards get a reply? As Richard said it is all about being a part of the solution.

I replied to many of your posts about Roy and Sergei B. I personally have picked up a ton of his cards as I live close to Columbus and some folks dumped him when he went to Florida. Good for me as I think he is a top goalie in my mind and will pick them up when they come across the table. Just saying when we collect one player things are going to be hard to come by especially if we are in the U.S. and you are in Canada. Being it is a minimum 15 to 16 dollars to ship one card via Bubblemailer. So, I would never reply with them as that makes it likely you are not going to want them with shipping factored in. As for your Roys you post most are nice inserts but none are truly the gems auto's, game used, or low numbered. If they were I am sure some would make offers even if they were lowball. I just know that watching the Roy stuff when put on eBay the nicer stuff still moves with plenty of bids. On all boards like SCF it is quieter because insta, Facebook, whatnot, and all the other social media outlets take some traffic.

7)Also, like I tell all the folks if you ever want to join the SCF team to help out feel free to join to help the site. Once, folks find out it takes a little bit of time most just say nah I just rather post when I want and not be required to chime in regularly to help with activity etc.
