Exclamation Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz indicted after probe into rigged pitches

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ml...osecutors.html

Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been indicted by prosecutors after being named in a bombshell probe into rigged pitches in Major League Baseball.

The pair were previously being investigated by the league itself, with a spokesperson revealing on Sunday that MLB chiefs immediately contacted federal law enforcement, 'fully cooperating throughout the process'.

And on Sunday, Ortiz was arrested in Boston after he and Clase were charged on multiple counts including wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy and bribery.

If found guilty, each player could face up to 65 years in prison. Prosecutors allege that Ortiz was paid $5,000 for throwing an intentional ball on June 15, with Clase given $5,000 for facilitating it.

It is alleged they then repeated the same process on June 27 for a payment of $7,000 apiece.

Following his arrest, Ortiz will make an initial appearance in federal court in Boston on Monday, before being arraigned in Brooklyn, New York at a later date. Clase is not currently in US custody, according to the indictment.

First the NBA, now the MLB. Always sad to hear of stuff like this.

This one seems really bad too. It sounds like Clase only got $12K in kickbacks. Why risk your career and your life over that money, when you have a $20 Million contract ($4 Million/year)

Yeah I don't really get why he was doing it either. Maybe if he had some debt to pay some people it would make sense but the guy was due a contract worth $100+ million. Why would he risk it for so little money? It makes sense for people like us doing it maybe but not more multi millionaires. Guess he's just incredibly stupid.

@pwaldo Yeah after I made this post I read a bunch of articles saying he threw away over $100 million because of the next contract he would have gotten. Absolutely crazy to throw a handful of bad pitches for less than 15k.
