Nice, it's always weird when someone does a free signing right before a paid signing. I've seen the free one get cancelled or turned into a "photos only" event when the promoter of the paid signing learns about it. As for promoting it...from a selfish standpoint, I greatly prefer that they DON'T promote it! This way, the line is shorter, the amount of time you need to commit before the event is less, and the number of things they will sign increases. But, it depends on the player and the place. And the player gets paid the same whether 10 people are there or 100 people. But as I said, it depends on the player/team and location. In the Chicago-land area, a promoted free current Blackhawks, Cubs, or most Bears signing will get hundreds of people.

Just wondering did you ever get John Sterling in your travels for your Yankee collection.
    Hope you did

I agree, I was happy the line was short and that he was open to signing anything that we had ( think some guy had like 8 ticket stubs). Still to be available for an hour and be a half hour late and be done before the signing time is pretty poor on the promoters and Home Depot.

I forgot to mention the nice bonus was that they gave out free Yankee vouchers as well to people on line. So not only did I get 3 autos, I will also be attending the Yankees-Blue Jays game in a couple weeks thanks to the event.

A big regret of mine was that I did not go on line years ago when the the radio station WFAN used to hold a yearly Yankees fan fest. John was there with Suzy Waldman on separate lines signing. I didn't want to wait on two different lines for broadcasters and chose to stick with the players. He's definitely a legend for Yankee fans.
