Tax Return - What should I get?!
Well I'm looking to dump about $150 into boxes/packs of basketball, baseball, or football. Most likely basketball so that's why I'm posting here. I'm wanting something with good resale value, perhaps. Perhaps some potential for high end cards, too. Here is what I'm looking at so far...
-Hardcourt - UD Black is looking pretty sweet, as well as a pretty solid set otherwise.
-Reflections - A really nice looking set, some sweet autos, too.
-SP Game Used - I've always wanted to bust a box of Game Used... Is now the time?
-Big Game - Damn, these look like you're bound to get some good cards, especially if I buy 3 boxes. Which I could with about $150.
-Sweet Shot - Some nice looking autos, but you could really get torched on a box, which kinda scares me.
-Bowman Elevation - Looks pretty sweet. 7 autos or gus per box.
-Press Pass Legends - Legends looks really sweet. I've never big on Press Pass, though.
-Topps Triple Threads? I may be able to stretch to the cost of this box if you guys realllly think it's worth it.
-SP Signature Edition - I like it just for it's high end potential.
-SPX - Some nice looking cards, not out yet, but will be soon, I could pre-order...
Thoughts on these or perhaps others?
Thanks!

-Hardcourt - I'd recommend two of these; 2 blacks, plus a pretty solid set.
-Reflections - The cards in this are worth diddly. The UD equivalent of Bowman. Even the auto #/20 are only like $50 at most, unless you pull a stud. Yes, you get 1 triple or double relic per, as well as 1 auto, but the 2 boxes I've busted have not been too great in terms of resale.
-SP Game Used - Very good box to bust...if you get a good box. Odds seem to be 1:3 or 1:4 boxes is a good one. Resale value is pretty good, though.
-Big Game - Since it's a new product, I'd say go for this. Decent stuff in it, and you can definitely resell while the novelty is still on.
-Sweet Shot - Don't touch this. Disgusting box to break; it'll make you want to puke.
-Bowman Elevation - Fun box to break, so I hear....but resell value is pretty bad.
-Press Pass Legends - Not big on PP either, but it's new (resale going to be good) plus I've seen some very good breaks on it.
-Topps Triple Threads? I don't think it'll be worth it, but you can't pass up on 2 triple relics per...
-SP Signature Edition - I actually am getting a case of this...will probably re-sell because I did not want it (wanted a case of Triple Threads, but that fell through).
-SPX - definitely a solid bet year in and year out.
Others you might want to consideR: SP Authentic and Topps Chrome (Chrome is fun to break but SP Authentic probably has better hits).
just my .02

Hardcourt- OKAY. I've busted 3 boxes and probably broke even or so (assuming my Blacks arent completely worthless). In order to break even I managed Brandon Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge rc autos tho.. which are two of the better ones in the set. I don't recommend it in particular..
Reflections- No idea I guess, although the resale on a lot of singles is pretty weak.
SPGU- Hit or Miss but HUGE potential hits.. I would get this if I were you
Big Game- Again, hit or miss, but unlike SPGU you're unlikely to get anything amazing. The best cards to look forward to are Wade or Shaq autos, or Morrison autos.. As you may expect, none of those are particularly big money cards (compared to say Jordans or Lebrons anyway)
Sweet Shot- I got a box of this and was pretty much burned.. Got a crappy rookie auto, a redemption monta ellis auto, a kidd/lebron dual gu, and a dirk gu /50. My box was probably better than average, which is kind of sad..
Elevation- Lots of numbered cards, lots of hits, but ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS. When an Allen Iverson 1/1 sells for $40, you know they've been too many parallels in one set..
Press Pass Legends- Like you, I've never been big on Press Pass.. but from the box breaks I've seen, it seems like a good buy. Plenty of Bird/Jerry West autos and stuff like that have been pulled, and it has a fairly nice design..
Topps TT- Pass. I can't imagine how Topps can possibly push a high-end product when they have no high-end stars. Hurray, you get a low numbered triple GU.. which is still nothing compared to say a double auto of the same players from SPGU. Again, you're looking at Wade, Shaq, Bird? and some rookies..
SP Signature- I'd prefer it over Big Game but that's it :) Although the prices on them are dropping pretty quick if you're talking about 05-06

Okay, so I'll eliminate Reflections, Big Game, Triple Threads, Elevation, and Sweet Shot.
And I'll throw in SP Authentic. The 05-06 of both SP Authentic and SPX are selling for $65 at dcs... I know I know... bad draft class, but still, those are solid brands for low prices.
Also, the reason I eliminated Big Game is because if I got 3 boxes of it and only it I wold have 3 packs to open after spending $150... I'll need more fun than that! Maybe just one box of it. We'll see what else I'll buy.
What I'm looking at perhaps getting right now is:
SP Game Used 06/07 - Going for $135 right now.
And then also getting...
SP Signature Edition 05/06 - Going for $35 right now... Puts me a bit over, but it'd be fun to do.
Any other ideas that may be a bit closer to budget and still allow me to get SP Game Used AND something else?

Here is the thing Hardcourt looks sweet because of the UD BLACK, but I heard the hardcourt ud black packs give you less of a shot of a bug pull as to the reflection Ud blacks
sp authentic 05 is nice

SPA is pretty bad imo
I believe all that is "guaranteed" is 1 auto/box.. and of all those autos, only Paul will sell for more than the cost of the box. Of course there are potential hits in the jsy/auto and jsy/patch parallels, but you have that chance with any product..

How do you feel about a signature edition of last year for $35?

Like I said, I prefer it over Big Game.. but it's still a product with fairly few big hits (I mean if you look at the BV's on the "base" autos, they seem fairly low)..
But hey, an auto is an auto, and buying a chance to hit a Jordan or Lebron (rare as it may be) seems like a decent deal at $35 a pack.. Granted, there are a LOT of dud cards in there too.

I'm not recommending these over other products but fyi, 2006-07 Chrome Basketball is due out Wed. 1/31/07. And 2006-07 Triple Threads Basketball is due out Wed. 2/14/07.
