There is no protection involved in a SASE and delivery confirmation.
I would rather have a tracking # so that you or myself would know when the card was shipped and received, than worry if you got it or not or if it was damaged or not. I even send out free cards this way.
It's the same thing as when a buyer wants to buy with cash at buyers' risk. I would rather they pay with paypal or a money order, as there is a way to track the payment/dispute the payment, in case it gets lost.
Overall, to me, I would rather the buyer and seller have as much protection as possible, so that the deal goes smoothly.
