    Isnt it funny how...

Isnt it funny how card stores jack prices when a product is hot, but seldomly lower prices when the boxes are slipping in price? I dont know, I just find it funny. There is one store near me, that will cut prices with the market, and very seldomly does he ever raise them. Then I have this other store, that raises prices like crazy, but even when a products going down, still have it marked up. For example, 05-06 SP Authentic basketball. You can get this anywhere for next to nothing, they had this marked $129.95. Just today they took it down to $89.95, which is still, almost double market value.

    Just had to rant.

I've got a local shop that's like that too.

If a pack is MSRP $10, he'll have it for $12 + tax. Boxes are the same way. ABsolutely HATE going there, even though I've pulled some nice stuff from them.

That is the common story here in Tucson. All of the shops in town are rediculious for price jacking. 89.99 for 1 pack of sterling. 179.99 for one box of contenders. 79.99 for one box of heritage (i can get it for 44 dlvd on the bay) 114 for Turkey Red. I went to H.S. with this guy and he NEVER hooks ANYONE up. He claims that rent is so high he has to charge a high markup.

I can give some leeway to the one who has mark ups. He has one of the biggest stores in the mall, and its in the largest mall in all of Wisconsin. Plus they hook me up, at least when the 2 owners (Brothers) are in.

The owner of Jeff's Mountain View Sports in Tucson is in a small shop in a dinky shopping center. I just can't stomach his prices anymore. I get my supplies there and the occasional pack but no boxes anymore. I will stick to DandA and Ebay.

You guys know why this is right?

When you have a brick and mortar shop, you have many, many more expenses. When all you have is an online store, it is easy to charge lower prices.

It's not to say I think prices should be over MSRP, or these prices are good, or their marketing is good, or their genius business men, or even that I would spend up to 2x what Ebay charges, im just saying, its not because they dont want to "hook you guys up" or they want to "gouge" you; they really do need to have much higher margins than online stores.

I'm glad that I have two options where I live. There is the Frank and Sons collectables show twice a week that has great prices but is a bit of a drive or I can go to my card shop guy who will cut me a deal on the box's. he'll do the best online price plus a few bucks which I would use on shipping anyways.

For me there is about 3 card shops in the immeadiate area that i go to.....the one closest to me the guy is always nice and ive known him for years......he soemtimes marks up but thats after he has to replace cases from the manufacturers and they charge him more due to high-demand......i mainly stick to singles off the bay to ease my hobby urges.....
