Why don't BGS grade Star Co. cards?

Are they too hard to authenticate or what's the deal? Seems rather silly to me.....

This is just a wild guess, but is it cause of licensing issues? I don't see PSA or SGC graded cards around either, Only Gai's. Are Gai any good or bogus?

This is straight from our website. "The first card ever produced of him was the 1984 Star #101 card; however, the original printing plates were used to reproduce this card a few years back. For this reason, it is nearly impossible to differentiate the originals with the reprints."

Much the same thing happened to that Nashville Sounds set with the minor league card of Don Mattingly in it. Used to be a $50+ set, but they reprinted it about 20 years later from the same negatives, so you ended up with an identical set. Now that set runs about $8.

It's a bad thing for investors, but a great thing for collectors who couldn't afford the originals.

I'm guessing not since they used the same printing plate - but shouldn't the reprints have the printing year on them?

they actually hurt themselves by decreasing demand. sounds like plain old laziness

I remember the ebay auctions for the re-printed Jordan RCs. They were in a different color & promoting them as "promos". They had white backgrounds & black backgrounds. I confirmed the info with a TUFF STUFF magazine writer (and basketball expert). There were no re-printed red backgrounds at the time.

The original reason the grading companies did not grade Star Co. cards was because Star Co. cards do not measure out a consistent 2.5" x 3.5". Take a team set of Star Co. cards and you'll see they are not all the same size. People started trimming their cards to give them clean edges. And since there was no consistent size, the grading companies could not tell if the card was trimmed or not.
