Looking For Guidance
Hello,
I found this site while searching for something else online. This site is awesome. I have a quick question for anyone that can answer it. I recently got back into collecting (mostly through ebay....singles, boxes, lots). I already had a small collection of about 6k-8k. I want to know how to start a cards and memorabilia business? Not a "brick & mortar", but something online, while keeping inventory in my house. I can't seem to find out how to register as a dealer with any of the top manufacturers, i.e topps, UD, donruss, etc....
Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure Upper Deck only deals with brick & mortar stores as a new policy.

The Major manufacturers ( topps, ud, donruss, etc) will not recognize you as a dealer unless, you have all the proper paperwork certifying that you are a legitimate buisness like sales tax licenses, EIN= Employer Identification number, buisness licenses, etc, these you must get from the state you live in, the EIN comes from the IRS. and in some states, you must also be bonded, therfore you would have to find a bonding company, and pay for a bond, etc..

I have everything except bonding, do I find that out from sec. of state's office, chamber of commerce?

If your that far, simply call Topps & Upper Deck their information is listed on their respected sites.
U.D actually has a dealer request form to fill out.

Simply put, you must have a Brick & Mortar storefront that is at least 75% sports related in order to get a direct dealer agreement with any of the manufacturers. You also have to provide pictures of all four walls of your store and have two months of telephone bills to prove it's a real store.

two months? what the heck do you do for those 2 months if you cant get boxes? Nobody buys singles from stores anymore. Just take the hit and hope you mkae your rent back in future box sales?

enigma: There are numerous distributors that you can deal with and usually get boxes cheaper than directly from the manufacturer, I know when I started my buisness, topps, Upper Deck, Donruss, etc.. would not sell to me directly unless I bought so many cases of one prduct at a time, unfortunately unless you have an extremly high credit rating or a ton of money in the bank you can't afford to do that so go with one of the distributors that can.
