Upper Deck Trying To Monopolize The Sports Card Market?
Upper Deck recently tendered a $427 million dollar offer to basically buy out Topps. Topps on its website is basically telling shareholders that this is not in the best interest of the company. Could you imagine what would happen to baseball if Upper Deck was the sole producer? Now, I know many of you like and enjoy opening Upper Deck Products. I for one am disgusted with the company as a whole, and only purchase their cards through secondary avenues like auctions sites and never purchase boxes of their product. I wanted to post this because I didn't know if anyone else already had.

Well, of course Topps would tell them not to sell! Upper Deck announced they would overhaul the Topps Employees, so there saving there own behinds.
Personally, I think Topps is the worst company out there. There High End Product's are sub-par because they dont have the big names. They already cant compete with UD. There Customer Service and how its handled has gone downhill.
I think it would be good! That way, maybe Donruss would get there MLB License back!

Upper Deck has regained my trust, Ill leave it at that. I never hated them, just slightly disliked after some bad busts. I cant argue with what there doing now, as I see change in the right direction.

Looks like Topps is gonna fight Upper Deck's takeover bid.
Personally, I don't think it matters what anyone's opinion is of either company. I just don't want to see one company gain a monopoly in the industry.

I think it needs to be pointed out that UD buying Topps would only give them a monopoly in the BASEBALL card market. Topps and UD aren't the only two SPORTS card producers.

dosnt anyone remember what upper deck did to the hobby back in the early 90's with upper deck french hockey. how they released it as a limited run, then after they had made a fortune off of it they flooded the market with cases of product, driving the price down so low, it went from a $200 box to $5-$10 or so almost overnight, and im suprised how people turn a blind eye to this, i do believe there was even a book released about happening's like this i forget the name of it

Speaking for myself, I never heard of UD French hockey so I never heard the story about what happened with it in the early 1990's. After doing a little research, I came up with a book title about the early years of UD. Perhaps its the one you're referring to..."Card Sharks" by Pete Williams.
