    What is a Rookie Card?

i picked up the new beckett, and they had an article on rookie cards. it doesn't say which is which though. they don't provide the definition of a rookie card. parallels are not considered RCs? even parallels of the RC itself... topps chrome have the logo saying rookie card on all of them... whats going on..

a rookie card is simply the first card of that player, even if their rookie year was 5 years before the card! i think?

back in the day, there was just 1 rookie card of each player...now there's like a trillion, with all the inserts, parallels & other crap! I really only collect topps, & i've seen people list 1992 Brett Favre Topps card as his rookie, but they don't say it's really just his 1st topps card. His rookie card was produced by a bunch of different sets in 1991.

    hope that helps

A rookie card (RC) is simply any base card produced of a player, in the first year he had a base card produced. Parallels are just that, parallels. They aren't rookie cards, they are parallels to the rookie card. It doesn't matter what the card company puts on the cards, hell, Topps claims that the 2006 look-a-likes they put in 2007 DPP are rookie cards.

    update

update: parallels are NOT considered RCs. RC are the base of the set, also excluding inserts

Boy.. those were the days.. single rookie cards. Then, you really felt like you had something special. Nice to see someone else only collect Topps! I collect Topps, but occasionally get sucked into other cards, but Topps is my brand of choice -- takes me back to the sandlot days.
