    anyone knowledgable with computers??

i bought a new computer a few weeks ago, obviously has vista OS on it. i tried to hook my printer/scanner up (lexmark 1100 series) and having problems getting it to work. i assumed it was a driver problem, so went to the lexmark page. they say that it is now compatable with vista but need a new driver - good great grand wonderful!!

well, they tell me that im supposed to (1) uninstall all printer drivers already installed by the software (2) download the vista driver (3) install said driver

my question is how do i uninstall the driver on here now? how do i then install the new downloaded driver? if i uninstall all printer stuff on here now, wont the installation software eventually install the original drivers?

quickly getting fed up with vista!!

    any help appreciated

    thanks,

    john

i think the real problem is that you bought vista :new_silly

Does vista have like a add remove program in the controll panel?
If so that should be it.
Sorry im a little rusty on my windows, i have a mac.

    John,

I don't know why you would need to uninstall your current drivers.. They should update automatically. But if you have to uninstall, I would think the programmers set up the printer to pick up drivers on the computer, hence your new driver to download.

thanks jay, just going by the instructions that are on the lexmark site. so you are saying if i uninstall EVERYTHING, download the new driver, and run the installation software again that it will recognize the new driver and not install the old one?

    John,

I can't promise anything but if thats what they are telling you to do, my guess is that is how the program is set up.

    See yoda5's Items on eBay

I had the same problem when i got my new PC. I also have the lexmark 1100 series. Vista is the new operating system for all new PC's. No choice there.

I had to do exactly what you said. Go the Lexmark page. They will have the new drivers there. They will also tell you how to uninstall your current drivers.

Sorry couldnt be more of a help.

Also, the old driver will not get re-installed. I am working fine with the new one.

    John,

Have you ever considered a linux boot instead of vista.

    Or a dual boot.
