I live in NJ but have spent some in time in Louisville and Lexington (not small towns admittedly) The climate is quite warm and humid for much of the year, lots of thunderstorms in the summer. Kentucky is gorgous though, it's horse country, green rolling hills and white rail fences. The first time I was out there was for the Kentucky Derby - I fell in love with the place, but my job keeps me where I am, and it's a bit warmer than I think I'd be comfortable with on a long term basis anyway. Having driven between Lexington and Louisville multiple times (on the highway of course) I know the scenery is very nice, but not much about the small towns. There are also a number of bourbon distilleries throughout the state. (whether or not that appeals to you..) Hope this helps a bit. good luck with your decision

Your best bet is to contact the Chamber of Commerce there and it will tell you everything you need to know.
