Trade question, please help!
ok SO ... 8 team league and I have Portis, I want to lock up Betts who is available on the waivers just incase Portis is a no go at some point this year. So I've proposed this trade and want to see what you think before I pull the trigger.
My team:
QB- McNabb, Leinart
RB- SjAx, Bush, Portis, Adrian Peterson (min), Marshawn Lynch, Brandon Jackson
WR- Ocho Cinco, Javon Walker, Boldin
TE - Vernon Davis, Olsen
K- who cares?
D/ST- Denver
His team:
QB - Palmer, Hasslebeck
RB - LJ, Ronnie Brown, Chestery Taylor, Warrick Dunn
WR- Housh, Branch, Chambers
TE- Gates
D/ST- Patriots
SO .. I've proposed a trade .. I give McNabb/Peterson for Carson Palmer. Then I free up a RB spot (can only have 6 on your roster) and can grab Betts off the waivers!
What do you think!!? I am concerned about McNabb's health this year and feel a little more comfortable with Palmer at the helm!
edit: Basically I'm trading McNabb/Peterson for Palmer/Betts!

damn you have a sweet team!!!! personally, i think your backfield is great as it is and you should get rid of portis for somebody. i think he is going downhill fast and i wouldnt want him on me team. but that sounds like a pretty good trade for you, although i could never get rid of adrian :)

I may be overly optimistic about McNabb, but I think that's too much to offer.
If both McNabb and Palmer are healthy, they're probably about even. Your trading partner has Hasselbeck too, though, who is probably also border-line starter worthy. He probably has less reason to worry about McNabb's health than you do. Topping the trade off with Peterson, who is probably the top "upside" guy in the entire league, is giving him way too much in my opinion. On top of that even, you're giving him his handcuff with Chester Taylor.
Why not offer Lynch or Jackson instead?
Or, wait until after Week 1. Carson plays at the Ravens, maybe has a poor showing, and the other guy gets down on him quick, and you're able to get the trade in offering less.
I think you're offering too much with your idea.

yeah it's a 8 team league so there are plenty of good players to go round.
I like the upside Portis has ... I took him in the 8th round so I couldn't pass! I just don't like the downside he has. But if I could lock up Betts I wouldn't worry so much. OR do I not worry about either of them and worry about who to play out of the 3 rookies every week?
see my dilemma.
Also I still think Palmer is a safer bet at QB than McNabb at this point. and with 85 on my team I have the potential for double points!

not sure why you would be worried about your RBs.....you should be worried about your receivers.....no reason at all to carry twice as many backs as receivers on your team, since you likely start more WRs than RBs (at the very minimum the same number). does you no good to have players on your team you will NEVER use, and no chance of you using all 6 of those backs. trade backs for receivers. in a 8 team league, you shouldn't be carrying 3 rookie RBs on your team.

actually ... we start 2 WR every week and 3 RB's ... 1 is actually a flex RB/WR spot but RB's obviously have the opportunity to score more than WR's on any given day. So I'd be starting Ocho and Walker every week except bye weeks where I will fill in Boldin.

so that doesn't explain why to have 6 RBs.....using the same logic you just gave me with your WRs, you will only use 4 of them......why wouldn't you want a balanced bench? no chance of using all them, just wasting roster spots.
and you dont need to handcuff players in a 8 man league, lol....handcuffing is meant for deep leagues, where there are less options. portis goes down, ya have 9 other backs on your bench!!!

Brandon Jackson is expendable for sure, but you wouldn't want to cast away A.P. or Lynch, particulary if there is any type of keeper situation going on, just for the sake of a balanced bench.

if it is a keeper, most keepers dont let you keep your whole team, so not gonna get to keep them all anyway.

No keeper type situation in this league, it's all redraft style.
proudestmonkey - with Portis' uncertain injury status, I likely wouldn't be able to get anything for him that has higher upside then Portis himself. If Portis stays relatively healthy all year he's a 1000 yard back no doubt.
