Yeah...but hearing "One" live in concert is one of favorite music experiences of all time...especially with Hammett and Ulrich trading guitar and drum solos during the drive section...

Had to go with Metallica. Their early stuff is so much better though. Megadeth had their moments too back in the 80's with some pretty good albums. It's a shame Mustaine had so many problems with drugs and alcohol. I guess that's what got him kicked out of Metallica in the first place.

Depends what album we're talking about.

Take the best of each band; And Justice For All vs. Rust In Peace - Metallica wins that one hands down... but take Rust in Peace or Peace Sells and put it up against any crap Metallica has released since Justice and Megadeth takes it.

Point blank, both Metallica and Megadeth are the Mark Messier's of the heavy metal world... they just can't hang up the skates even when it is quite apparent that they are BOTH past their prime.

After the two aforementioned albums, both bands dumbed down their music so they could get more MTV airtime. I remember when the black album came out and how I saw teenage girls singing Nothing Else Matters. I died a little that day.

As per musical talent; Megadeth has some of the sickest musicians in metal. Mustaine can shred and Friedman makes Mustaine look like a retard after sniffing paint fumes. Nick Menza and Lars are comparable drummers. Really the only head to head matchup that Metallica wins is bassits as Robert Trujillo is a crazy-talented player when he is allowed to be. For some of you who aren't familiar with his skills, I invite you to listen to Suicidal Tendencies - Send me Your Money or Infectious Grooves - Violent and Funky. He is great.

So, bottom line, if we are talking about both bands in their current states; neither win, as they both are one-trick ponies that rehash the same powed-chord progressions with new overdubbed growlings or whines... and we musn't forget the obligatory Hetfield "Yeaaaahyeah!"

But, if we are talking about pitting both bands against each other when in their prime, that is to say, Justice vs Rust, then Metallica takes it.

    end rant...

Btw, congrats to John1170 for being the ONLY one here that spelled MegaDETH correctly :-)

I'm so disappointed in this board. Metallica? Horrible. MEGADETH

By the way, has anybody heard Megadeths two newest albums? They're excellent. Especially "The System Has Failed" Definitly right up their with Rust in Peace and Peace Sells.

I have to say the OLD Metallica is better. I saw them on the last day of their last tour in San Jose and they were TERRIBLE! It was so bad that James apologized to the crowd for how bad they sounded. $100.00 per ticket down the drain.
