Well said everyone -- we had a ceremony this morning at 0930. And yes I remember everyday. Six years ago I was coming on duty at 0800. It was a long day and was hoping for no calls, wish isn't usually the case.

    RIP

Even though I'm not a firefighter like FlyShyts & Blazin, I think about those lost more that just today as well. I made sure my flag was flying this morning before I left for work and I added a special avatar and signature banner for today to pay respect to those lives lost 6 years ago.

I have to apologize. Yes I have been a firefighter for almost 22 years now and my dad was for 20. So naturally I think of the 343 that lost their lives six years ago first. In addition I get the death notices of all firefighters in the US when they happen. Plus I get the info from foreign firefighter deaths also like in Europe lately or in Australia in the past years. It's a habit because being in "charge" I need to know what is working and what isn't. It protects my engineer, reserves and lastly me.

So I have to apologize to the police officers, EMS (my wife is am EMt on an ambulance) and the Port Authority personnel who lost their lives to help so many. Next obviously there were a lot that lost their lives for absolutely no reason. Or I should say for a very "stupid reason". They were just pawns in a certain a--holes agenda.

Everyone one of those victims --fire, police, EMS, and innocent people should be thought as the same. As victims of a crime. I guess I lose sight when I am out there everyday and only think of my "kind". Heck I forget my wife's "kind" too!!

And we should never forget the young men and women who are fighting for our freedom right now. My dad did it in Vietnam and I'm sure they are going through some of the same problems and concerns.

I know what it is to lose someone close which I did recently with my mom passing on plus my brother 29 years ago, the day after my mom. May they all rest in peace and hopefully something like six years ago will never happen and we can bring our troops home with no more losses.

Sorry for the long babble. I needed it.
