Card Shops in your area
This thread is going to be for everyone to post information about sports card shops in your area or others that you've been to.
It could be a good resource for people in the same area or others that might be traveling to your city.
Please post in as much detail as you can and if you would recommend going or not.
I'm currently checking out shops in my area so I'll add my post later.
Lets try to keep on topic. :)

There's one in Fountain Valley, CA., called Home Plate, located on 8884 Warner Ave.
I go in every once in a while; mostly I see the lady owner there.
Let's just say she's not very pleasant.
Every time I drop in and ask if they've got Garbage Pail Kids, she says, "...no, no shipment coming...", then goes about her business.
I always thought the job of a business was to make you feel welcome.
Her prices on cards aren't too good either.
But, it's fun to go in and look at the new stuff that are coming out. Haven't bothered to buy anything since I do most of my buying online.

I don't really visit shops, but if you're ever in the Pittsburgh area, there's this flea market called Eastland that I always go to. There's usually about 10 guys that deal a good amount of cards and there's a guy named Fran that will take good care of you.

There's a guy named Al Terentino in Summit, NJ that used to sell cards (not sure if he stopped) that gave me great deals. I don't think he's selling cards anymore, and it's a shame. He was great.

Any time I hear a guy name "Fran", it makes me chuckle.
hee hee hee.
How'd you like to grow up with "Fran" or even Francis? Talk about being teased to death in school
Naturally, if you're bigger than everyone else, it don't matter.

Ziggy? LOL, is he related to Iggy? On the serious side, how are they way over priced? Why do you buy from them then?

There are 3 in my area, I only deal with one, here in Northwest Indiana.
Arena Sports
owned by a married couple, both husband and wife are the nicest people in the world, the husband name is Jack. You will get the best deals in the are, both are avid collectors as she likes larry bird and maryilyn monroe, and she has a few bird jersey auto's in frames that are very cool. He is a calton fisk and Denver Broncos, he also likes Magg's from the whitesox, he has a broncos stadium seat auto by elway for 1/77 it is the real deal, full size seat.
Prices on the cards you can not beat them in the area and if you do regular business, you will always get a cut on the cards and he sell all his cards 50% of Becketts Book value, you can't beat that.
Arena Sports carries BB, FB, BKB, racing, and non-sports stuff like yu-gi-oh, pokeman, star wars, star trek, and others.
he carries from low-end to high end stuff and is on direct with every major card company. and he deals with wholesalers too if he runs out of something or a special request.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Antoher is Cheap Seats
you have seen them advertised on the beckett alot, the owner is a female that has attitude problem, they do not have alot of high end product and the lowend product is over-priced well at least it is to me compared to my fav shop.
they sell alot of cards on cosignment, so you will not get any deals on cards unless the guy is undervalued in beckett.
The good things is they are opened on sundays so if you have a urge to bust some packs or boxes, you can get it on.
They carry just about every sport. They have a lot of hockey as well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sports Corner
talking to the owner of shop is like talking to a doorknob, it has about the same emotion, this is one of those guys who is strictly a business owner, not a collector, he used to be, but not anymore, his wife when she is tell follows you around the store like you are going to jump the counter and steal something, so have to keep asking her to move out of the way so you can see the cards. He has a look of graded cards and the best is MJ Fleer rookie graded BGS 7, so we know it's real
If you wnat to just buy cards, cool but if you want to have a little conversation, then forget about and drive 15 minutes to arena sports, like I do and I live 5 minutes from this guy.
he has low to high-end products and is on direct with upper deck and topps only. His prices again are no where near Arena Sports.
he carries BB, BKB, FB, pokemon, yu-gi-uh and that is about it.
know you stuff because if you a hobby only guy liek you me, he will sell some retail stuff and you will never know unless you know the difference in the packs. I have been screwed by him before and when I said to him you sold me some retail packs and he said yeah I sell them, I told him you should let a person know as I was disgusted. So be careful, if it matters to you.

You can also buy from, super kmart, walmart, target, toys r us, meijers, a few flea markets around, super kmarts and meijers are open 24 hours so you can wet you thrist for breaking a box or busting a pack. It is up to you.
If you are ever in the Northwest Indiana area which is 25 minutes from downtown Chicago, let me know I will get you the address or meet you there.

Welp for me it has bee ages since I have gone to this shop but it is still a good one. If you are ever in Charleston, SC (North Charleston) look up a place called Hooked on Cards. The people there are real friendly and fun to talk to. They deal with all four sports, racing and non sport game cards. I use to buy alot of Magic the Gathering from there and then went into sports from there. Since I have not been there for awhile I don't know how the prices are but last I knew they were pretty good. Some thing a little over priced and some under priced. And if you buy a good amount of stuff then you may get a discount. I will not say that for sure but there would be a good chance. :)
