    Player Collecting Question

Is it possible to build up a collection without ebay? Also how do you pick a player to collect?

You can build up collections using this site and other like it, but you still have to spend some money. I do most of my PC stuff here, but I still watch eBay for a good deal too. Either you can buy it off eBay or you can buy packs/boxes/etc to get trade bait to trade to others for the cards you want. For me, opening boxes and packs is an addiction, so I can feed that addiction and get trade bait at the same time.

As far as picking a player, there are tons of ways to do that, but you need some kinda of connection that makes you want to collect them. It's kinda hard just to pick a random player and stick with it. I collect a guy from my hometown (Shawn Bryson), a guy from my favorite hockey team (David Legwand), a bunch of guys from the college I went to (Clemson)...that way you have a reason to stick with it. I'll always be from Franklin, NC, the Predators will always be my favorite hockey team (most likely, although Legwand may get traded), I will always have graduated from Clemson...that kind of stuff doesn't change.

And I definitely agree w/JammingJames about finding an affordable player. There's no understating how huge this is, especially if you can't just blow a lot of money on cards like me. Almost all of the guys I collect are pretty affordable. 1) it makes it a lot easier to get those cards because not as many people are collecting them or want to keep them b/c they're very valuable and 2) it doesn't put you in the poorhouse...at least not as quickly.

I think Meachem is a good guy to collect and I know you were into Stanton at one time too. Both of those guys have the potential to be very good NFL players, but right now they're still somewhat affordable and easier to collect than Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Brady Quinn, etc.

I try not to use ebay anymore than I have to, but it's the only way to get some rare and harder to find Carson Palmer items.

i think sportlots is still a bit high on shipping or some things. i have been trying to collect 3 players for a long time ago and i can't find anyone that has them or they do not want to bother since they are "commons". i have been willing to trade and/or sell everything i have to get these few cards i need. I can't even get people to look at my posts so i am at a standstill myself.

    No ebay would mean....

....getting away from the PC monitor.

If you dont want to use Ebay, just find some shows in your area to purchase your cards. As far as who to collect. Just pick your favorite players.
