He's not actually giving the bird. There is a story on yahoo sports that talks about it and Leon is actually making an "E" with this fingers that represents East Carolina which is where he's from. It's mostly the angle of the photo that makes it look that bad but if you look at it closely you can see that he has his thumb, pointer finger, and middle finger making the E.
