Where do you spend your money?

I'm just seeing how others feel about the situation. i just love the rush of busting open packs to see what is inside, but then after dropping 80 bucks at one time for an auto and a couple of game used of players i know of but don't really care for i start thinking that the same 80 bucks could've gotten me some really nice stuff if i had just went and bought cards of specific players i like. knowing this i still go right back and buy more packs the next week thinking law of averages says i'll hit something to make up for last week...... now i'm down 160 bucks w/ not much to show for it! are there places to go for this addiction???

we meet every Thursday at 7:00 at Packaddicts.com. My name is Brian and I am a pack addict. I know my collection would be much better if I took my $80-100 each time and ebayed with it...but I am always convinced I will pull something SWEEET worth much more then I am spending because...I AM DUE!!..and I am an addict...my wife says AMEN!!

Seriously, I have to limit myself to 1 pack a week and an ebay item or two a month...Granted, I have pulled some great stuff that I never would have bought...but I have spect SO MUCH MONEY on stuff I can't seem to give away...I feel for ya man!!

What I do do though alot is trade for team lots...being in the midwest, I seem to pull alot of Twins and Cubs and have some very nice stuff from those teams (I am a Royals and White Sox fan of course), but I try to find people that will trade $50 lots.

Oh, congratulations on Step 1..admitting you are an addict

    beanschat,
Do I have too stand and give my life story? I tried finding PackAddicts.com and couldn't. I need a fix haven't had one in 6 months. They don't have anything like that here in the land of Islam.

As for my Matt schaub collection, half are buys (Ebay) and the other half is trades (HI(35+),TCC(7+),SCF(89+),SCS(61+),TR(21+)). I think I have pulled like 3 to 6 cards that are in my collection. Later and have a good one.

    Scoops,
Hereis what I would do. Forget boxes. Ebay can even be hit and miss as there are some good deals but we all heard the horror stories (no cards, card not as stated, mail problems, etc.)

Avoid all that if you save up a few hundred take your cards that you have and go set up at a show. Now why do I say this for several reasons.

    1) If you ever gone to a show there are always people coming to sell cards. Sometimes they have junk other times they have a buried treasure (just like finding a low card on ebay). Of course you get to see it upfront and personal.

    2) Not only will you have the people coming to sell things you might find dealers who are looking to sell. As I watched one dealer sell 38 young guns that book at $8 a piece for $30. Not a bad lot etc. I saw another guy who set up for the first 2 days and by the end of day two he sold all his red wings to the guy next to him for what he described as a steal. I have also seen guys come up to a show and there a few guys I know that go up to the table (HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT FOR EVERYTHING). Sometimes the person takes it and walks away of course the person usually got a heck of a buy.

    3) You get to sell stuff too so it only a added bonus.

    4) Contacts are made and this only helps you down the road.

    5) Your on a tradesite how many of the other dealers are (NOT MANY). As most do ebay and only want the quick dollar. If your patient and build up a base of traders you can trade for cards people are only happy to move as they don't want Baron Davis but you know a collector. Hmm,another advantage of being on a tradesite and doing shows. You just have to have your little rolodex, palm pilot, of who collects what and needs what. Nothing like that phone with unlimited weekend to make some calls. Heck, if your really on top of your game bring the wi-fi laptop to the show and really scare people ( I SEE IT ALL THE TIME)!!!

P.S. The only down side is you have to have a proper setup and plan on how your going to set up. But I think the shows are where you can make the BEST BUYS plain and simple. That just my two cents and it beats boxes anyday. Want to ask more questions feel free to ask).
