On this extremely tough issue I think violent, murderous criminals ought to work for the rest of their lives to pay restitution to the victim's families, pay for their lifelong incarceration, and provide education and deterrence for at-risk youth who have violently offended in their early teens.
I now work with emotionally disturbed kids and they DO NOT always have control of their decisions due to many factors. They grow older and society lets them slip through the cracks of help or institutionalization they need. This is a shared responsibility. These cannot be ignored by society as causes for why people commit violent acts. All people do not fit a certain profile of a demonizeable criminal villian with cause to institute the death penalty, only their acts do.

Well there is always that other side of the coin when we convict someone. I believe the system is good overall but when someone life in your hands the system needs to make sure it 100 percent.
How many times have we seen over time (not many percentage wise) were a man or women are convicted of a crime and then later released because of DNA, new evidence, etc. I just truly would hate to find out later that I was the one who voted for the death sentence on this person or anyone and down the road they truly were not guilty. HMM, perhaps a alternative is needed to death row. As a deterrent it definitely not going to work unless you perhaps put them on public display and actually do it like in the old days with the guillotine (SP).
p.s. There a lot of sides to this issue as it not so easy to say yea or nay.
