Holiday Rant
I just dont get it......
I work in a service industry. I install and do Quality Control checks on all types of satellite systems. I run into alot of different people during my day. well this lady takes the cake.(and apparently ate too much too)
While in her house i noticed her Christmas Tree. I made a polite mention as to how nice it looked. That seemed to make her happy, i guess. But when i was finished with the install of her new Directv system, i took a moment to wish her a Merry Christmas as i was walking out the door.
Well this lady hit the roof.
She started in on this whole rant about how she wasn't Christian, how she didn't believe in Xmas. this whole litany of reasons I shouldnt have wished her a merry xmas.
Now I might not be the most understanding of people, but has the world really come to this. What ever happened to accepting a wishing of wellness and happiness in the spirit it was given. Do people actually believe that when someone says this it is meant in a manner other then what the words suggest?
Not to mention the Xmas Tree that was in her house!!!!
How is that i could offend her but the Tree didnt.
Somethings i will just never understand.
I was brought up to respect others rights to religion and spiritual beliefs, but this was pure lunacy.
sorry had ta vent.

Sounds like a double standard to me. I've gotten in the habit of saying "have a safe holiday season". That way I don't offend some muslim or buddhist.

Hey Brendan,
It sounds like she had a lot of pent up religious or other anxiety and she needs to GET A LIFE !
A relative recently banned his daughter from participating in decorating Grandpa's tree and fireplace because they didn't want to emphasize the materialism and religious aspects of the holiday. When it comes to controlling kids in this manner I see red! Let them decide for themselves!! (thanks for opening the door so I could vent!!)

DBG....I couldn't agree with you more.
I say piss on these over-sensitive, politically correct nancy's. In the kindest of ways, of course ;)
I grew up with the same.....treat others how you want to be treated. All of this PC garbage is what's making morons of people. I've said it before..and will say it again.....we, as a nation, are becoming TOO thin skinned.
Now..I could..but won't....go on about this topic....
I'll end it here by wishing ALL of you a Merry freakin' Christmas....whether you like it or not! LOL ;)
Seriously.....Happy Holidays all ;)

I just told my wife and she said next time say, "Have a crappy Christmas!" LMAO! I thought that was one of the funniest things I have heard in a while.
Dude, that lady needs help with her attitude. I don't say Happy Holidays but I do say Merry Christmas to one and all. If they are muslim or whichever, they can say so in a kind manner and I will say, "Oh, that's cool."

It's not a Christmas Tree anymore... it's a "Holiday Tree." More BS.
Look, I'm not a Christian, but I don't care if someone says "Merry Christmas" to me. I'll say it back. I don't even consider Christmas a Christian holiday anymore. It's just a given thing it seems. I don't go into the whole Jesus aspect, but when you throw in a tree and Santa Claus... whatever. Saying Merry Christmas should be considered the same as "Have a nice day." I don't see a difference.
