It getting to be that the minority sets the rules. Just as you say how many people would be offended by someone saying that not a lot. Of course just as with anything the media, press, make big news on this when one person blows up.
As I rememeber reading that someone wanted a christmas tree taken down in a airport if something from their religion was not put up. They said they would sue and the airport took down their christmas tree. THey dropped the charges and I remember seeing the christmas tree rolled back into the airport. HOW SAD.

Well said! ;)
I am a Christian....but...even to me, Christmas is more about a time of giving, a time to enjoy friends and family. I getted wrapped up in the "spirit of Christmas" so to speak. I love Christmas...I love winter..some of the old Xmas shows on tv...decorating my home....this time of year really brings out the best in me. And as I remember....it used to be that way for millions of others once...
When I was a kid whole neighborhoods were decorated...we had snowball fights that covered 3 blocks....neighbors were always helping one another dig out their cars, shovel the walkways...etc
Not for a second did it even matter what religion you were...what color you were....
People, the world over...but moreso here in the states, have seriously become pathetic. Too wrapped up in this PC bs...too overly sensitive....whining and crying about who did what, who said this or that....
Whatever happened to putting a smile on your face and going about your day? Someone offers a polite greeting....respond in kind. Someone opens a door for you...have the decency to take .03 seconds and say "Thank you".
Ignorance is not bliss. And that is probably a good way to describe what our American society has become....ignorant. Ignorant to the point that we don't know what the hell is right or wrong anymore...we just know that the guy next to us must be wrong...about something. That's pretty darn sad.
I sure do miss the good ole' days of ...hmmm...1981? To think how far we've fallen in such a short amount of time.
Really....how hard is it to just be polite and say "Thank you" when someone says "Merry Christmas" to you?

I am not offended by people saying "Merry Christmas" to me, but I do find it annoying. Not from a religious standing (because today Christmas couldn't have less to do with religion) but from a celebration standing. I don't get rude about it or anything, I just say that I don't celebrate the holidays. If people want to know why I explain. Of course there are people out there that take things to close to heart and whatnot and just need to relax a little. I just don't like it when people assume I celebrate the same way they do.

Gee and i thought maybe it was just me...lol
I was brought up learning about the religious aspects of the christian holidays, but honestly those times have passed. Xmas to me, now, is more about getting ready so i can see the joy on my kids faces when they open their gifts. My lil guy is having his second Xmas this year, which is really like the first one he will experience. his sister opened all his stuff last year....lol
EB i agree completely with you, it seems that no matter what someone does or says, it will offend some part of society and they are guaranteed to cry about it.
I dont ever think that everyone should think or believe as i do, but ill be damned if i have to make apologies for it.
As for the womans address i am going to have to pass on giving it out. But dont worry she is scheduled to have a house fall on her sister in the remake of the Wizard of Oz.
" Whatever happened to putting a smile on your face and going about your day? Someone offers a polite greeting....respond in kind. Someone opens a door for you...have the decency to take .03 seconds and say "Thank you" "
It seems now as if any act of random kindness is met with shock. just the other day i was at a gas station getting gas, and an elderly woman pulled up next to me. i offered to help her with the pump and she looked at me like i was going to rob her. Life has become this big game of 'wheres the angle'. its as if most people dont do anything to help others unless it some how benefits themselves.
The holiday season is supposed to be about giving, wether you celebrate, Xmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, or none of them. what ever happened to the gifts of common courtesy and the respect of others beliefs, especially when they are not your own.
And shouldnt these be shown everyday???
I dont know about the rest of you, but i dont live in the world i was brought up in. People and attitudes are no where near what they used to be like. I just refuse to be treated like a Jackass for trying to bring a little of it into the present.
Well im done, i feel a bit better.
To those that celebrate whatever it is you celebrate.... enjoy, be safe and go put a smile on some ones face for no reason at all.....
Merry xmas

Ah, the politically correct have ruined your day too. Did you know that the military are that way also. Did you know I can't call a Foxhole a Foxhole? I have to call it a Fighting Position. There are others but it saddens me to talk about it.
I try to do Random acts of Kindness and usually met with disdain. Try holding a door (easiest one to do) for people and see the response you get. It makes me dislike people with a passion, sad isn't it?

The military is the worst when it comes to euphemisms. They actually measure (or used to) nuclear radiation in something called "sunshine units."
Look at the progression of this phrase:
WWI - Shell Shock
WWII - Battle Fatigue
Korean War - Operational Exhaustion
Vietnam War - Post-Tramatic Stress Disorder
I bet you if they still were calling it shell shock, some of those Vietnam veterans might've gotten the help that they deserved at the time! - George Carlin

Well, they're celebrating "being nice to eachother" i guess... I suppose they think it makes up for being a jerkoff for the other 11 months of the year lol. To me, it's evolved away from a religious thing. It might mean more to you or someone else, but to me, "Merry Christmas" in December equates to "Have a nice day" to me.

I'm a Christian, so obviously Christmas has a deeper meaning to me than just Santa Claus and gift giving. I celebrate the birth of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ...and enjoy the time with my family & friends because this is the one day out of the year that we can all get together.
With that being said, the political correctness of this country has gone haywire. It sickens me that you can't be nice to someone, extend a word of kindness without someone being offended, or stand up for your own beliefs without someone making a huge issue out of it. That lady could've politely told you her feelings instead of going on a big rant. I believe we should all respect each other's beliefs, not waiver on our own, and do to others as we'd have done to ourselves. None of us are better than anyone else.
Whatever your beliefs are, I wish you all a safe and very happy Christmas, and a New Year filled with much happiness and many blessings!! And if you happen to get any unwanted Jeff Gordon cards, you know where to send 'em, lol

"That lady could've politely told you her feelings instead of going on a big rant."
Or better yet, she could have just said "Thank you, you too". I remember back when that was the appropriate response. ;)
