Not a fun night
Tonight was one of those nights from hell...I had to get up for work at 6 AM this morning, my usual time to get up..
I made plans with my girlfriend for her and my daughter to meet me after work so we could shopping and spend the gift card we were given from my Mom and Stepdad for Christmas...
We got home around 6:30 PM and when we walked up on my steps I noticed something was wrong when I saw the fram on my front door was busted and my door was unlocked...I told my Girlfriend and Daughter to stay outside and I opened the door and went into my house...When I walked into my house and turned my living room light on I noticed my living room was ransacked and my dining room was also trashed....
When I was looking around the house I found a trail of blood that went from my steps to the front door that was pretty fresh, so it looked like my dog got ahold of whoever broke into my house...The thing is I have a Pit Bull and by the looks of all of the blood he got ahold of whoever did this and mustve bit them up farily good..
I looked around my house and whoever did this took my Playstaion 2, about 20 games, took a monster box of cards off of my desk that had all of my gu and autos of the teams and players I collect..In this box there was two Mario Lemieux gu cards that booke for over $100 each, my Kasey Kahne rookie auto I pulled from a box of racing cards I got last year...
After I checked the house out to see if anyone was in here I proceeded to call 911 and told the police dispatcher what happened and asked for her to send someone here to file a report..
A half hour later an officer finally showed up, the thing that pissed me off was this cop started to question me like I had something to do with this which really ticked me off...This cop basically acted like he couldve cared less about what happened and made the comment to me "Since you dont have renters insurance there really isnt too much that can be done to recover the value of anything"... He also told me he was going to have to call the animal law officer since my dog bit someone and it was a Pit Bull since they are considered to be vicious dogs...I argued with him about this seeing my dog was doing nothing but trying to protect my home but he didnt see it that way...
I even asked the cop if he could check the hospitals to see if anyone was treated for dog bites and he told me he could do that but if there was anyone who was treated for dog bites he would have to get the information from the hospital, call in a detective to question them, and posibly get a warrant to search the persons residence to try to recover my stuff..
So basically I am out all that money for what was taken, my dog was quaranteened and I may end up having to get rid of him because when my landlord finds out he will probably try to make me do that for the fear his homeowners insurance may go up because my dog bit someone...Thanks EdI only trade by Beckett price guide, not eBay comp or SV, TV..I also do not collect any Panini or Donruss Baseball products..

Man that really stinks!! I am just glad that you three are safe and did not come home in the midst of the theft and someone besides the robber was injured.... Cards and items can be replaced....I feel really bad for the dog as that is family..... Sorry for your losses..... Good luck with the recovery...

Chris, I was thinking the same thing, I also found an open window on the side of my house where my desk is and I was kinda thinking there had to be more than one person that did this as the boxes of cards were sitting on my desk right by where the window is...
My dog is usually upstairs in my daughters room as that is where he sleeps under her bed so by the time he got out from under the bed they probably had what they wanted and were on their way out...Thanks Ed

That sucks Ed!! It really does...that is exactly why I was leary of the google map option here at the site...Seems some people have gotten very specific about their location. I have posted on there...but I am several blocks from where I indicated. Seems like they had a good idea what they were going for if they didn't take the TV attached to the playstation or a stereo.
sucks.............

Ed totally understand as my apt was broken into and I had some stuff stolen. I just hope your dog is not held accountable for what it did as they were just protecting his terriotory.
p.s. Not sure how many cardshops you have around there but I would be calling everyone of them tomorrow and telling them the various items to watch out for. Perhaps the crooks will be stupid and try to resell them at a card shop later down the line. Or if you post more stuff we could as a site watch online for items that you had stolen. If a group of them appear from the same seller and from the same area it would be more than a coincidence.
p.s. Just as others have said glad to see you nor your family was home at the time of the incident.

Ed,
Sorry to hear what happened, but happy to hear that no one was home and possibly hurt at the time. It's a shame your dog didn't tear off a hand or something... maybe the cop would have taken a fingerprint, LOL. Sorry... trying to lighten the mood a little.
I hope things work out and that yuo get your dog back and find the jerk who did this.
For what it's worth... I think it would be a good idea to put together a list of the serial numbered cards that were taken. Maybe you'll be able to do like Don said and find them through sellers in your area or maybe online. I'd be sure to offer that list to the police as well so that have it in their file for the future in case you find any of the stolen cards.
Keep your chin up buddy!!! The important thing is that you or your family members weren't there. No telling what might have happened if they were.

Thanks Les and everyone else, I do have a list of the cards that were in the box that was taken from my desk and I printed it out when I got home from work and gave a copy to the police officer who was here last night...I also took a copy to the cardshop I go to here and the owner told me he would keep a close eye out incase anyone goes there trying to sell stuff..I am good friends with the shop owner so I know he will do all he can to help out..
there are a few swap shops here and I am also going to check them when I am off Tuesday and see if anything surfaces...As for my dog , I did talk to the dog law officer on the phone this morning after I got to work and I will be getting my dog back, he explained to me the reason he had to take my dog was because he bit the person who did this even though he was defending his territory that it is just the procedure they follow...My dog does have all of his shots so I dont have anything to worry about... Thanks Ed
