    Cowher Done in Pittsburgh?

Operating on a timeline established during a Tuesday morning meeting with Steelers ownership, Bill Cowher will return to Pittsburgh next Monday to reveal plans for his NFL future.

The consensus among high-ranking team officials, and sources around the NFL, is that Cowher will retire as coach of the Steelers after 15 seasons. In fact, it will be stunning if Cowher returns to the team to fulfill the final year of his current contract.

The reason? Ostensibly to spend more time with his family. There has been rampant speculation since last May, when it was revealed that Cowher and his wife had purchased a home in Raleigh, N.C., that 2006 would be his last season with the team. That speculation was fueled when contract discussions between the Steelers and Cowher's representative failed to produce an extension to his deal.

In a way i hope he does hang it up for a few years....yes he's got a helluva job that i would gladly do, but....family comes first above everything. I'm not sure he'll come back even as soon as 08....I'd say he'll take at least 2 yrs off, maybe more. Recharge the batteries, sit back and second guess 32 other guys for a few years, let the itch build back up.....and if Pitt doesn't stay inhouse to fill the position, they need to find someone young, full of pI$$ and vinegar, someone the players can relate to, give that team a few swift kicks when it needs it, a pat on the back when it's earned, and start workin on gettin rings on the second hand.

I'm sorry, can I mention one thing before he definately retires, Oakland Raiders. I think he would be the perfect coach to turn the Raiders Franchise around. He is a highly respected coach, and he's won because of it. Sorry Art Shell, Cowher is in.

The Oakland Raiders, don't make me sick. How could he stand to be around Al Davis. It wouldn't work out. Do you really believe that Cowher could hang there with the way Davis does things. Come on.

All I have to say about Cowher leaving is, Thanks for the memories and have a good one. I don't have any hate for Antwaan Randle EL either but I do think he made a mistake by leaving a team that knew his skills and how to use him.

Being a true Raider fan, I can't necessarily disagree with you. Al Davis does pear over everything from his press box, but he has known to give some decisions to coaches he believes in. Jon Gruden. I think that if Cowher were to come to Oakland, Davis would recognize his credibility and let him call the shots.
