Art Shell is gone.
Though Art Shell was not able to manage his players very well, he didn't do much to merit being fired after one year.
He actually didn't do much of anything. His team went 2-14 and star potential was wasted away on the sideline. Jerry Porter ended the season with 1 catch, and Randy Moss seemed to find away to drop every pass.
Art Shell, as all of this happened, choose to glare at his players from the sideline and watch the games slip away.
You could easily say that he didn't coach the team very well, but the players had a huge hand in it as well. Now the big question will be weither they can find another coach who will want to take over a sinking ship.

What are your thoughts on the fact that few would want to coach the Raiders under Al?
I don't think they are a sinking ship, just adrift and lacking strong leadership, however, will Davis micromanage ANYONE who accepts the job and shoot himself in the foot AGAIN?

I didn't expect this as Al himself said at the beginning of the season that he wouldn't fire Art Shell if they had a bad season this year. I also don't think that he mismanaged his players since Porter has a mouth and showed no respect to Art from the get go. The Raiders in general had no discipline to begin with because of being coached by cupcake Norv Turner. I will admit that it will be hard to bring in a legitimate coach for the Raiders under Al Davis and hard times could continue for some time.

Yes, the hard times will continue for a few years now. There are only a few coaches, in my mind, that will set the ship back on course. Dennis Green, Jim Mora, and Rob Ryan. The latter probably being the only one who wants the job. It will be a job for whoever wants it, but there is so much potential on the team. I still retain hope for my team though, but I doubt anything drastic happens next year.
