PETA on trial for killing animals
I remember hearing about PETA killing animals from the Penn and Teller show. PETA thinks it is better to kill animals the rehabilitate them. Hypocrisy at its worst!
It is an unlikely locale for an unlikely criminal case. Today, two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a radical animal-rights group that opposes meat-eating, are on trial for the strangest of charges: killing animals.
Now, two of its employees stand accused of tossing garbage bags full of euthanized cats and dogs into a Dumpster behind a Piggly Wiggly in Hertford County, 130 miles northeast of Raleigh.
Adria J. Hinkle and Andrew B. Cook, both of whom work in PETA's Norfolk office, are charged with 21 counts each of animal cruelty, a felony that can carry prison time, along with littering and obtaining property by false pretenses.
"Euthanasia is a better alternative to sitting in a stinking pound," Guillermo said.
PETA opponents are drawing attention to this little-known facet of the group's work.
On Monday morning, the Washington D.C.-based Center for Consumer Freedom, an anti-PETA group funded by restaurants and meat producers, drove a mobile billboard truck reading "PETA: As Warm and Cuddly as You Thought?" past the courthouse.
David Martosko, research director for the group, described the case as a gift in his fight to discredit PETA. He plans to monitor the entire trial. "Most people would not believe, if you told them two years ago, that PETA kills animals. They'd say, 'What? They're the bunny huggers,' " Martosko said.

If the animal is suffering and in pain and agony with no hope of survival then it is the humane thing to do. They aren't clubbing them over the heads or drilling bolts into their skulls. How about waiting until the facts come out until passing judgment.

So now they are playing God and deciding what kind of death an animal should have? That is a different PETA than we know from the past. Neither one uses methods which accomplish any positive goals...

I know I would prefer a painless death to one of suffering and agony. But that's just me.

Sounds like what you are doing. Who said these animals were suffering? You are assuming that but don't know the facts either.
Also, last I looked there was a thing called the Humane Society who takes care of killing suffering animals. How is PETA qualified to kill animals? I think this is exactly what this case is about. I can't just go around collecting animals and killing them because I feel they are suffering and neither can PETA.

Mike,
Again just a note as your hoping on JOE. Just because you have a employee of a institution (organization) does not mean they truly believe in what PETA stands for. There are many people that are officials that act out of character. So to lump two employees with the whole PETA is shortsighted is it not? Shouldn't we see if their actions were known or unknown etc.
I mean if your going to say that what about crooked cops, guys in the white house, teachers abusing their power over children, and the list goes on and on. HYPOCRISY AT IT WORST. HMM sounds like it just a story of the news of course I do not know all the facts but I see all of us jumping the gun.
p.s. Just like the Vick haters talking about his waterbottle. Now we got Bush and who knows what will come of that (best thing is to do is wait and see). Hopefully, in all things justice is served of course that not always the case but we can only hope.

Don,
As I referred to the Penn and Teller video. PETE purchased an industrial size fridge just for these killings. So, it is PETA's policy. Here is the video.

I hope they get the maximum! Usually, I'm ok with group devoted to causes, but these people are NUTS! They do some good, but they are way too extreme.

I said IF the animal is suffering but until the facts come out I will not pass judgment upon the workers.
