Having trouble logging into STC?

At least weekly I get an e-mail/PM from a user stating that they have trouble logging in. For instance, the member logs in, the screen states "success, you are being directed..." and then the member is logged out. The member tries this over and over and once and a while gets success logging in.

There are many causes for this. The problems can be caused by the browser settings, security settings (firewalls, etc), or user errors.

Almost all interactive websites to include STC uses cookies. These are small bits of information that get placed on your computer. These cookies store user information that speeds interaction up with websites. These should NOT be confused with spyware as they are not the same thing. Spyware is placed on your computer to mine data from the user. The data is used without your consent. Cookies make it so users do not have to log in every time they visit a site (if the users chooses) and is there so the server remembers information about the user. The data is NOT used for spam, marketing, etc. All browsers restrict the number of cookies on a computer so cookies will not build up and take up a lot of memory. So, I never suggest DELETING cookies!

I wrote an article on my Korea site that helps members protect and clean up their computer. I suggest EVERY member run these tasks regardless if you are having problems. Also, some members are so scared of the internet that they place their browser security and firewalls on high and nothing gets through. This means the STC cookie never makes it to their computer and the server can NOT recognize the user, no matter how many times the user logs in. Mine has done that. After I log in, I click Main Forums on the sidebar on the left. Then at the top I click Forums and I'm logged in.

Mike: I read your article on cleaning up your computer, etc,, A lot of good information there, but as many people do not know, you do not have to buy an anti-virus program like Norton, Mcafee, etc, there are 2 very good anti-virus, and spyware blockers that are free, and work better than Norton or McAfee, there is also a free utility that you can use to clean up your computer, I don't know if I am allowed to mention the names of these free antivirus programs, and computer clean up tools, so i will let you decide on that.

I do however use them, and I can tell you from first hand experience, that they do work better than the major antivirus programs, etc.
