ready.gov, are you prepared?
I was doing my annual Anti-Terrorism Refresher training and it mentioned http://www.ready.gov/ as a good source to prepare your family and home in the event of an emergency like a natural disaster or terrorist attack. Katrina and 9-11 taught me that you can never be too prepared. Don’t rely on the government and take some precautionary measures! The site gives great info on setting up a plan and a check list of good items to have available.

I think that while most of that stuff would come in handy if you lived in an urban area, for the most part, it really doesn't concern me....I mean I live out in rural western maryland....I think the odds of terrorists deciding to attack my town are about as likely as Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrinch sitting down to share Sunday supper. Besides, I have access to the redneck's survival gear: shotgun, rifle and a 4 wheel drive.

LOL...sounds like us, except we can add a couple of compound bows, bowie knives, and our wonderful atv. We live so far out in the country (or as some like to call it, the boonies...), that a terrorist attack here seems unlikely. The only thing that does concern me is an attack happening in a nearby city, and the effects being felt here. Never hurts to be prepared for that. It would also come in handy for a bad weather situation, like what happened with Katrina, or the blizzard of '97 (we had no electricity or water for almost 2 weeks). I suppose that no matter where we live, in all seriousness, we should never take anything for granted. We really never know what can happen anywhere at anytime. Always good to be prepared and have a plan just in case!

Nasty weather I'm rather familiar with...I remember back in 93 we had 2 storms dump 9+ ft of snow on us in 5 days time, the first of it started falling 12 hrs before the kids had to go back to school from xmas break and I was one of the lucky ones. Between myself and my younger brother, we pulled in close to $1,000 in 3 days of walking around town, shoveling people out....Snow plows were useless, they had to get heavy construction equipment to open up the roads and then all the local shopping centers was pleading for anyone with a truck and a plow to dig them out..was a couple of long days but the money was worth it, blew it all on video games and pizza.
