Democratic president would end war
By NATASHA T. METZLER, Associated Press Writer Sat Jun 9, 11:12 AM ET
WASHINGTON -
The high hurdles faced by congressional Democrats in their efforts to end the Iraq war make electing a Democratic president in 2008 the best way to finish the conflict, Democratic party chairman Howard Dean Said Saturday.
He noted his party has made little progress toward ending the war, the cause, he said, that returned them to power.
"The American people hired Democrats last November to ensure that we end this war," Dean said during the weekly Democratic radio address. "So let me be clear, we know that if we don't keep our promise, we may find ourselves the minority again."
Dean put the blame for the lack of progress squarely on the White House and congressional Republicans for blocking his party's attempt at tying war funding to deadlines for troop withdrawals.
"We have to face the reality that Republicans in Congress are standing with President Bush as he stubbornly wields his veto pen," Dean charged. In response, he proposed that the "one way to truly ensure we end this war" was to elect a Democrat as president in 2008.
A former presidential candidate himself, Dean contrasted the field of Democratic and Republican candidates who participated in separate party debates earlier this week, saying only Democrats would end the war.
Democrats also seek to shift troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, restore damaged relationships with other countries and provide the military with "the resources they need," Dean said.
That is the so the Truth! atleast Democrats tell it like it is instead of Sugar Coating Everything like Bush and Republicans do!

Mike,
Not anything against Dem's but to say they are telling it like it is would be a lie. He states"The American people hired Democrats last November to ensure that we end this war,"
.
I don't know how many times I heard audio of all the hopefuls in their speeches who are now elected (got in November) make promises. They have not even pushed for a VOTE. How come they promised they would BRING THE TROOPS HOME. I mean if they felt that strongly they could have pushed for a VOTE which they did not do. So they have not used all their tools at their disposal. As they could have said BUSH we are going to do everything we can to show the PEOPLE (we are here to BRING THE TROOPS HOME). If you stop us it falls on you and not that we didnt' try.
OF COURSE THEY HAVE NOT TRIED NOR USED THE POWER AT THEIR DISPOSAL TO EVEN CALL FOR A VOTE. So to me they are liars (not truthtellers as you say "they tell it like it is).
I think you live in a fairy world land of Politicians as no one tells it like it is. When they do they are faced with a group that comes out of the woodwork and you see them retract their statements etc. to not offend the group.
I never thought I would see President Bush give credences to the GLOBAL WARMING. Yet, he has of late his actions seem to indicate that.

First off Mike. Do you live under a rock? You used the words "politician" (dems) and "truth" to try and make a point.
I gotta laugh. Politics is about disseption! If the world was gonna end tell me what democrat would inform the world of it???? hmmm none of them. You get told only what they want you to know. P.S. what war are you talking about??? The one that Bush declared was over a year or two???
Its not hard to figure out. But to say one side is honest and the other isn't borders stupid! (no I'm not saying YOU are stupid). Politicians in general do what is BEST for their careers not the voters. Seems they only care what we think in election years, wonder why that is!
