Combat Dining in Hawaii Style - Pics inside
Last Friday my unit had a "Combat Dining in." A combat dining is where military guys go out to a clearing/field and do stupid things like drink alcohol and get messy.
My unit is broken down into 3 sections. For our dining out we spent the morning building make-shift forts. Of course my section built the best one. Here I am guarding it.

From the picture you can see will built our fort from pallets and cardboard, but don't laugh until you see the other 2 forts! We called them "Big" and "Little Harlem".

The idea of this Dining Out was each side built a fort, brought water guns and filled water balloons. There were established rules that if broken, a member or team can get sent to "The Grog Bowl." The Grog Bowl is a nasty mix of non-alcoholic and alcoholic mix. Before the games begin all three sides pour in a lot of drink into The Grog, making it taste pretty bad, but doing a great job of getting you drunk. Pictured here is our two Grogs. Yes they are the Toilet seats in the picture surrounded by sand bags.

This whole function is moderated by a Mr and Mrs. Madame Vice who read from a script and try to keep the party fun. There is also the head table (pictured above) that the highest ranking members sit at and hand out infractions and send people to The Grog.
Now some of you are saying, "is it really that bad getting sent to the Grog? I get free alcohol!"
Well, it is a matter of perspective. To get to The Grog, you have to ride a kid tricycle around some cones, crawl under some cammo netting, jump on the "slip and slide" to a pool of water, perform some military "respects" to the senior leadership and finally get a drink. Now the "slip and slip" pictured about was the BEFORE picture. The leadership poured cooking oil, lettuce, tomatoes, cereal and tons of other crap on the slip and slide. It was nasty! Now while you are going through this course to get to The Grog all side have free rain to throw water balloons and shoot their water guns at you. Here are two other angles of the course.

The most important area was the social tent where the beer, food and alcohol was stored. Now while all of this is going on, all three sections are constantly going to war, throwing 500+ water balloons and shooting guns. Some even destroyed forts! Of course we set up our secret weapon and ended the war!

Well, that is how I spent my entire Friday day and night. If you have a lot of friends give it a try! We had to wear military BDUs from the belt on down and we were free to wear whatever we wanted from the belt up. Some took this to mean anything!

I'm hoping the last guy did something wrong to have been dressed as a carebear!!

George,
That carebear is your last line of defense. You better treat him with kindness or he will not care for you or your family. Hopefully, Mike and the troops were off the clock (tax dollars).
Mike,
Glad ya had fun and it always nice to build camaraderie. Thanks for sharing!!

I haven't been to a dining out in a few years, but talk about a blast. We always had ours in the aircraft hanger. It wasn't so elaborate, but always involved a huge food fight and a huge sling shot for pies LOL. I think it's one of the best things and won't forget. Thanks for sharing the pics Mike
