Why is it????
Why is it that it takes a great tragedy like 9-11 to bring out the true spirit of America, and why is it that about 90% of everybody has forgotten it already?
It took the 9-11 tragedy for this country to realize just how far we have forgotten what true liberty is al about. We seen so much displays of patriotism afterwards I remember driving anyplace and 75% of the vehicles would have flags flopping in the wind. 90% of houses would have a flag flying outside. Government was in tune with each other, no in fighting, Democrat againest Republican, it was all for one and one for all.
Know days your lucky to see a flag flying outside a house, the Government is at odds within itself, he said, she said, your to blame, bureacratic BS all around. People have forgotten again the price that has been paid for our freedom. They take it all for granted and truly believe that we are invincible to otuside attacks again.
I just finished watching the movie 'World Tradecenter' again for the upteen time, it still bring tears to my eyes, and then to have to think about the way this country is beginning to act again just makes one wonder what people really believe in. The Corporate world has risen to the top again, the government does what the Corporate world tells them to do, and we go on taking the blunt of whats left.
I guess it will take another tradgedy for the rest to get it. We need to bring back the patriotism, the sense of freedom of what this great nation was founded upon, what all our forefathers died for in preserving.
God bless all those that have perished and for all that do serve now to protect the freedom that we do enjoy so much. And above all God Bless this great nation that we do live in.

Mike, I agree with what you said, but the problem is both political parties have used the tragedy of 9-11 to forward their own agendas. It's the nature of the beast - democracy. Total unity behind any cause is a difficult thing to achieve in this country. Right or wrong, politicians are always looking for chinks in their opponents armor and as for the common man, too often "out of sight equals out of mind." People get wrapped up in living their lives. Groceries and gas, getting the kids started in school, paying the bills, going to work - all these things push 9-11 to the background. Life happens. When the next tragedy occurs, we'll go through all this again. I wish there were easy answers on how to change this attitude, but there aren't any.

I agree. I believe both sides are guilty of playing politics. Democrats are doing now because they want the Presidency. The Republicans weakened Clinton (who deserves much of the credit) with the impeachment and Democrats have weakened President Bush because of Iraq. The good news is the surge is working and the polls are climbing for support in Iraq. That is what happens when the news doesn't have a car bomb to show every day.
Overall, the American people are short sited and want victory in one season like a TV show. I am glad we have had a President that has stayed the course and we are finally seeing the reasoning. Victory in Iraq and in other places we fight should be a common cause, but Democrats champion defeat so they can get into power. If Iraq gets worse Democrats get in power in 2008. If Iraq is successful and we start to pull out troops soon a Republican as a great chance of winning in 2008. It is in the nature of Democrats to want defeat in Iraq and make President Bush look incompetent. Sad really as this happened in Vietnam.

I remember seeing a report a while back where 1/4 or 1/3 already forgot the year that 9/11 happened
