Some Sad, But Not Unexpected News...
Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to take a brief moment and let you know my Stepfather, Don Cornelius, passed away yesterday evening in Lady Lake FL at the age of 80...Please take a moment to say a silent prayer for him, that he may rest in peace.
He was a great guy and was together with my Mom for more than 30 years; 27 of them in marriage. He is the best thing that could have happened to my Mom at the time they met and I learned a lot from him, even if I might have been too ignorant or stubborn to realize it at the time. Everything I know about automobiles I learned from him and he was also an avid racing fan of all types, who even built and raced quarter-midget and sprint cars in the 1950s and 60s at local tracks here in NW Ohio, including Eldora.
He was a dedicated employee of Teledyne CAE in Toledo for 30 years, manufacturing jet turbine engines for the government and airline industry. Beginning his career there at an early age, he was able to earn and enjoy an early retirement when only in his 50s.
Thanks and have a great day!

Tim,
Just want to say I am glad to hear the whole story and my main focus is your mother in this time. Glad to hear that she had the opportunity to meet a great guy and husband. It amazing that things can seem bad but a good person can make a impact in a spouse life and the family. Glad to hear he lived a great life and passed a lot of things onto you. In the same situation with my mom as she remarried almost 10 years ago to my STEPDAD but why call it stepdad when he is more of a father and brings happiness to my mom and myself than the orginal Dad.
p.s. God Bless and I hope your mother takes this all in stride. As in true love it all about a companion that is there and sometimes the loneliness can be very depressing at a time when your used to your spouse being there. hope the whole family picks up the time to help your mother in this time.

Thank you for the kind words, everyone!
As I said, his passing was not unexpected and had been imminent for the last few weeks, so all the arrangements had been made and everyone could prepare themself as best as possible. My Mom and his two sons were together with him, but he was stubborn to the end. He did not want any life support and only had oxygen, but after it was removed it still took him seven hours to pass. He told everyone he wanted to die, but when it came time he fought it with everything he had left...My Mom said this was the hardest part.
I watched the complete race yesterday (which is usually not the case) and reflected on him and his life with a cold beer or two, because that is what he would have been doing on a Sunday afternoon!
