Red face Started down the path of quitting smoking

Heyas everyone. After smoking for the past 18-19 years I have finally said I am GOING to quit. It has only been about a day and a half but it is getting to me. hehe. I am wanting a cig and I just don't know what to do to fill in the void. Everything I would do would normally leed to me having a cig. After I eat I smoke. When I read my mags or my papers I smoke. After I play a game of Madden I smoke. hehe. After I have a talk with my lady I have a smoke. I don't know if it really the matter of missing the nicotine or if it is the matter of not doing what I would normally do. At this moment I just feal BLAH. I don't know. Any suggestions from anyone that has quit smoking would be great. And I know I don't have to say this but when I did smoke I did it outside. hehe. :icon_roll

P.S. I have thought about having a drink but when I do drink I smoke. hehe.

    Hey Richie-

    CONGRATS on quitting!!

I quit in mid May and still have not caved in and had one...my mom quit in Feb after smoking for, and this is not a typo, 57 years! Of course, she found out she had lung cancer and pretty much had 2 options, stop and possibly live or flat out die. Thankfully she quit (on the patch and chantix) and she did have part of her lung removed...but she is cancer free.

A few things I have done is remind myself how much 1 pack of smokes cost and think "wow...I can add another Brown auto to my collection for that" ..LOL...also, after about 2 weeks you are pretty much past the jonesing for a smoke stage, you start to smell smoke ALOT in your clothes, etc and it's just yucky....I am so glad I quit....even my girlfriend quit after smoking for 25 years...she quit at the end of July and she is also very happy she quit.

Do this.....for every pack of cigarettes/carton you would have bought, toss the cash in a jar. Wait 1 month then count the money...be honest about putting the correct amount in the jar each time....you will be shocked. I swear...this is the truth Richie....from the 3 of us here, in one month, we save $630 a MONTH. We were all about 2 pack per day smokers....packs were about $3.50 per...it adds up!

    Good luck :)

    Peace~

Good luck! My folks quit smoking in 2002, and I don't know how they did it. It was basically cold turkey. My dad could no longer smoke on his job, so he decided to quit, and mom followed. I do remember them chewing a lot of straws, lol.

I also quit cold turkey, actually threw away the last pack I had with about 5 smokes remaining....I was just all done.

My girlfriend did the patch and was going to do the chantix but she didn't feel she needed it. My mom was NOT happy about having to quit, but she has done outstanding and now says she is so happy she quit and wishes she had listened sooner lol.

Hang in there Richie...I know you can do it!

    Peace~

    Hey bud,

Congrats to ya. Its a major MAJOR thing that people don't seem to realize unless you are taking part in quitting. I don't want to question the cravings that you may have in times but DONT let it get to you. Make sure you remove any/all possible triggers that may remind you of those nasty things because it does not take much at all.

Thanks for the words thus far. I am pretty much quitting cold turkey. I threw away 19 cigs so pretty much a full pack. I wanted to take them out so I did take them out and broke all of them. hehe. Here it is about $5 a pack. I will make sure to keep posted on how I am doing. If I have not posted then ask to see how I am doing. My gf is going to be helping out along with our children. Thanks again for the encouragement and all and those that have quit keep up the great work. hehehe. :)
