Roy Williams Suspended 1 Game
WILLIAMS SUSPENDED FOR ONE GAME
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the league has suspended Cowboys safety Roy Williams one game for his most recent violation of the Roy Williams rule.
Specifically, Williams dragged Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb down from behind during Sunday's game at Dallas.
It was Williams' third violation of the rule this season.
The rule was passed following the 2004 season, based in large part on a broken ankle to former Eagles (and now Cowboys) receiver Terrell Owens, which resulted from a horse-collar tackle by Williams.
Initially, the rule prohibited tackling a player by putting a hand inside the back of his shoulder pads. The rule has since been revised to prevent putting a hand merely inside the jersey.
Williams will miss Saturday night's game between the Cowboys and the Panthers at Charlotte.
UPDATE: Chris Mortensen reports that Commissioner Roger Goodell will hear Williams' appeal of the suspension on Tuesday.

I feel it was a good call on the suspension. I realize that sometimes accidents happen when making tackles in the heat of the moment, but Williams was well known and notorious for his horse collar tackles before the rule was implemented. Since the rule inception he's been fined 4 or 5 times I think so it's not like he's changing his ways much. Old habits are hard to break I guess.

Well deserved. I to am getting sick of his horse collars. This is his third violation of the season, but he's had other close ones. Roy use to be one my favorite players but since he got a fat new contract he's been inconsistent.

I think that the suspension is deserved as well, but also...
I see other defensive players make horse-collar tackles and not get the call.
And yes, I know the rule about the hands being inside the shoulder-pads.
Williams gets targeted (and rightly so) because of his track record.

Why does he continue to do this? Its easy, he's always getting beat, so he's always trying to takle from behind. Make the guy a linebacker & see what happens. Im sick of seeing guys burn him game after game.
