The Nation Road Trip/Contest
An idea I have had in the works with the SCF Staff is "The National Road Trip". The goal is not only to spend the week at The National, but also pay the way for several members to go there. Full details on the 2008 event here.
The goal is to pay for the airfare, hotel, VIP tickets and provide some spending cash to several TR/SCF members. Additionally, the goal is to rent two RVs and pick up some collectors on the way. Another idea I had was to have a small camera crew film the entire road trip and week at The National and produce a DVD so the collectors that could not go could attend. I have registered thenationalroadtrip.com and am in talks with The National senior organizer as we speak. We set up a booth last year and had a blast!
So, the goal is to:- Pay for the airfare, hotel, VIP tickets and spending cash to 1-5 members
- Rent 1-2 RVs (depending on the interest) and pick up members on the way for an AWESOME road trip!
- Recruit members that have audio/video experience to help produce a DVD at the end of it
- Get SCF members to provide player/team packs to give away with a recruitment card at the show
- Have 1-2 booths to give away the player/team packs with two laptops. If someone signs up on SCF they get a pack!
- Have a blast!
We are also looking for sponsors of this event. I'm contacting Upper Deck, Topps and all the other major companies for sponsorship to help pay for all of this. They will get placed on the DVD and Website. If you are interested in sponsoring this event let me know!

very cool... planning on going... i think it would be cool if ever member was given a name tag, so every member of scf could meet some new people...

Those RVs gotta have some kind of SCF advertising decal plastered all over it--will make the DVD much more visually interesting--it could even be on the DVD cover. Sponsor logos could also be featured on the RVs.

Does one need any sort of special license to drive one of those. I see them on the highway all the time and they are huge. Also would the forum members be driving or would you hire a driver?

Just another thought here. A great way to gain attention for the site would be through the endorsement of a pro athlete somewhere. If you could some how work the athlete into the DVD something like this:
" Famous Athletes Road Trip to the National"
I think that those who are unfamiliar with the online trading scene will want to be pulled in because a has been baseball player tells them to.
