Tring for a broad spectrum, Jersey cards, Are you a Purest with the feeling that cutting an Otto Graham , Or sammy Baugh Jersey is ok? What happened to the rc card, from the mass produced 80's and 90's to the rare numbered versions of today virtually making it impossible to complete sets. Autographs, have they Enchanched card collected or hinderd it, do to Price consideration, can, no should a kid try to collect, and expect and auto or jersey?

I'm 42 and back in B.B. (before beckett) When I swapped cards. No trading! It was my card for yours. things were simplier. Then the monster raised its ugly head yes I mean beckett and then a slew of other price guides. Then came the inserts which were actually cool and even the first auto's and game used. Then of course it became a WAR!
Who can put out the most of everything and flood the market. Now i don't know about you but why would anyone pay $500 for a 1/1 auto of John Doe when he has 50 auto's that cost $25???? Did he sign his name different? These things have always bugged me. Least i forget to mention the card companies put out more and more higher $$ items and less cheaper stuff just to make a buck while driving the kids out of the market. Do I care if they chop up a jersey not really i can't afford to own it. Taxes would make it impossible for us small guys to ever own a Monster whale card..Unless you pull one and tell no one about it!! Then wheres the fun in that!?!
Look why does auto x from a $200 box get $300bv yet that same auto if pulled from a $70 box is worth $25. Price guide people have their hands in the cookie jar and our pockets yet we do nothing to stop them....How Ironic......

Becket drives everything with a guide that has absolutely nothing to do with real world value. They set prices where they want them to be rather than on market stats.
They used to say that their pricing was based on extensive research of card sales at shops and shows. Now that actual sales stats from much larger samples can easily be seen on Ebay it becomes obvious that Becket creates their own values.
Yes, we do need a guide but this is the cart pulling the horse.

I coudn't agree more, and there are a lot of problems with this. The continued financial success of Beckett is directly linked to the success of the sports card market. If the card companies are making money, so is Beckett. It's in Beckett's best interest to hype up the products, especially the high end stuff.
There's also a major problem with Beckett and their connection to the card companies. Take a look at a Beckett and check out who buys the big $$ adds (full page, color). It's Topps, Donruss and UD. This creates a conflict of interest for Beckett. They can't exactly bite the hand that feeds them and give their honest opinion on a product. Bondsaway made some great points about the price of players autos, but Beckett will never address something like that.

I agree with the beckett stuff, but are they the one's to blame?????
Is it us perhaps? We (or I should say Those who can afford) keep buying the high priced stuff, has this ruined the hobby for Kids.
Do you think the Companys (Playoff/UD/Topps) are actuallly tring to make an effort to attract kids, or do you think they have the attitude of they get what they get, deal with it?????
Sure Beckett always shows some cute kid pull a rare card out of some overpriced product, but in the real world it doesn't happen like that, does it????
